As title states. I don't think I would care as I didn't bother voting. But I HATE this government.

If you hate them, why wouldn’t you vote to change it?
We’re in this mess because we’ve all collectively let it happen, and that includes by not voting

SirChenjins · 16/05/2024 22:49

I wouldn’t date anyone with a political leaning - SNP are Indy obsessed and are making an absolute shitshow of our country, the Greens are obsessed with throwing women’s rights out of the window, Labour have been on the fence for far too many important issues and have treated some women in their party appallingly, and the Tories we have in Westminster have a lot to do before I’ll forgive them for Boris, although they hold the SNP’s feet to the fire here which is needed.

Anyone who actively supports any of our parties at the moment isn’t someone I’d want in my bed.

WomanFromTheNorth · 16/05/2024 22:51

No!

ClipClopperDontStopper · 16/05/2024 22:57

I once shagged a Trump voter because he was hot as hell, and we had great chemistry, and got on really well one-to-one. But I wouldn't want a relationship with one because I know once the mega horniness had calmed down I'd be so viscerally opposed to lots of their beliefs that it would just descend into squabbling and eye rolling.

So in conclusion, it depends if I'm looking for love or looking to scratch an itch.

But some people thrive in a relationship with lots of Heated Debates so it could well work for someone else.

Never seen a sexy Tory though.

MidnightMeltdown · 16/05/2024 23:03

Yes, as long as they aren't extreme in their views I don't care who they vote for. I don't like extreme right or extreme left.

Same applies to religion. I don't mind any religion as long as they aren't extreme.

People who are extreme and intolerant of others, whether it relates to politics or religion, are dangerous imo, and not people who I would see myself as compatible with.

Zonder · 16/05/2024 23:04

Nope

Bluebird987 · 16/05/2024 23:04

Left would massively put me off, far right would massively put me off. I’d have to know how ‘right ‘ they are. Anyone that was so political they felt the need to declare it on their dating profile I don’t think I’d be interested

Same! 😆

Hatfullofwillow · 16/05/2024 23:20

No. All the evidence we have to date suggests that the more equal a society is the better it is and that those societies that are the most equal are left leaning.

I also don't subscribe to the idea it's ok to have different views when those views lead to, for example, the 300,000 excess deaths in the UK due to austerity politics.

pizzaHeart · 16/05/2024 23:23

gretgret · 16/05/2024 21:50

If they specifically put 'right', I imagine they are too 'right'.

I wouldn't.

This^

SamW98 · 16/05/2024 23:28

To be honest anyone putting their political leanings on their dating profile has the sane effect on me as the ones who put their vaccine status or pronouns - I roll my eyes and swipe left immediately

BlessedKali · 17/05/2024 00:16

Yes, conservatism values marriage, responsibility, hard work, and fatherhood.Beinf right leaning doesn't mean you necessarily support the Tories, but it does mean you are someone who thinks everyone should be responsible for themselves. This is a good frame of mind (rather than thinking everyone else owes you something.)

Ah, China and the soviet union...those great left bastions of equality.

BlessedKali · 17/05/2024 00:22

Left and right leaning don't necessarily mean labour or conservative, but a way of understanding the world. If you had asked me this question 5 years ago I would have been one of the voters who said NOPE! but that was because I didn't understand, and had simplified the situation to labour = goodies and Tories= badies. But it's not actually that simple.

There is far more to the psychology, and now with more understanding I see the benefits (and downfalls) of both outlooks.

Don't write someone off because of it, it might be an incredibly interesting person to have these discussions with.

Ponderingwindow · 17/05/2024 00:28

No I wouldn’t.

i also wouldn’t date someone who doesn’t vote in every election

Nosferatutu · 17/05/2024 00:40

It wouldn’t put me off, I’d probably want to find out whether it was more small-c conservatism or the I <3 Nigel Farage end though. But so many vocally lefty men are awful misogynists so if I saw Left on a man’s dating profile I might think twice.

Ah, China and the soviet union...those great left bastions of equality.

Predictable response. But that's not what most people mean by left. I'm talking about democratic socialists, like the governments in Scandinavia, or Labour under Corbyn.

It's disingenuous to cite two uniquely historical developments as evidence to counter the examples of contemporary societies, ones moving from feudalism into Communism in a Capitalist world.

From the Scandi nations to the rest of Europe there is clear evidence that the more equal a society is the less crime, more trust in government, the happier its citizens report etc. There's no clearer example of the argument against the right (free market) and in favour of the left.

frozendaisy · 17/05/2024 02:32

No we would be too different.
They would dislike my reading material, views and company equally as much so what would be the point?

lifesrichpageant · 17/05/2024 05:05

Eew never

Lonelycrab · 17/05/2024 05:39

No.

User135644 · 17/05/2024 06:12

It's apparently a problem with younger generation. The men have all gone to the right and the women more Liberal left.

Oh and the last “left” government introduced tuition fees, was it in 1997/1998? The current “right” government have increased them by triple the amount and scrapped all the grants leaving the current graduates saddled with a s load of student debt.

The Blair government was centrist. Might have been more Liberal on some issues but they continued a lot of what Thatcher did economically and privatisation. It's all coming home to roost.

Corbyn was left, Ed Miliband would have been left.
