Making Friends in Your 40’s

Hi

I’d love some tips on how to make new friends. It was easy when the kids were little, however some friends moved away, some drifted apart during Covid, others turned out not to be who I thought they were.

I do have a few good friends to socialise with, but not anyone I can necessarily turn to if I had a problem, and I haven’t had a best friend for years. I work remotely so I’m not gaining any new friends through work.

Is it even possible to create new great friends at this age? I’m thinking of joining a club or something, I’d appreciate any advice.

Thanks

It's quite a strange time I suppose, too young for retirement groups of hobbies, perhaps too old for friendships with school mums as DC grow older. And throw perimenopause into the mix which can lead to changes as well.

I have reconnected with a couple of old friends from university and school, which is quite nice but they aren't nearby. But I'm not sure I can deal with another close friend really, I don't feel I have the capacity atm with family (teens and elderly relatives) it's tricky.

But it's good to hear about others finding new friendships and groups.
