Does your DP/DH still surprise you?

Last night DH was telling me about a discussion he had been listening to on the radio about love at first sight.
Whether it exsists or not.

He then went on to say he remembered the first time he saw me as I started working at the same place as him.

He said he remembered thinking WOW,and could'nt describe the feeling but he said it felt like everything was all brand new and obviously in a different way was like the feelings he had the first time he saw our children when they were born.

This was a real boost to my confidence as we have had problems recently and never knew he felt like that.
We have been together 17 years and married for nearly 10 years.

Anyone else's DP/DH suddenly surprise them like this?

he never compliments me so came as a suprise to find that out i thought it was nice as always worry about what he thinks his the looks ok kind of a guy

Julezboo · 28/03/2008 13:59

DP does all the time. We have "only" been together 3 years though so ask me again in 10 years

suzywong · 28/03/2008 14:01

I'll give it 15 posts before someone answers:

Cappuccino · 28/03/2008 14:03

yes

or 'it constantly surprises me that I haven't left him'

Cappuccino · 28/03/2008 14:04

I am forever surprised by how many socks he has

Irisheyes78 · 28/03/2008 15:10

My dh husband told me he knew he would marry me the second time he seen me. I asked him why didn't he didn't he think that the first time he saw me and cheeky beggar said "because I wasn't looking at your face"!

He still surprises me in small ways I suppose but I'm not bothered about stuff like that. It's more important to me that he can confide in me, looks after his family and respects me.

And he says I'm the best looking girl in the world. Have to agree with him really (wink)

Maidamess · 28/03/2008 15:12

Yes it surprises me how he STIll can't tip away the dirty washing up water. After 20 years.

Maidamess · 28/03/2008 15:13

Oh, and in terms of surprising me with gifts...no..no... I have to say "Its in John Lewis, second floor, third aisle, speak to Marjorie she'll help you" Then he gets cross when I don't act 'surprised' !!

dandycandyjellybean · 28/03/2008 15:54

dh (who rarely comments on my appearance - as I don't look like a motorbike!!!lol) said to me yesterday 'I really like you in that top, it makes you look nuggy (midlands expression for voloptuous). Also periodically leaves me little notes in the tea cupboard me to find in the morning. Married 20 years this year!!! omg!!

VanillaPumpkin · 28/03/2008 15:56

Dh constanty surprises me by his inability to put his breakfast bowl in the dishwasher or to throw away juice cartons (because he has to crush them first )

Fullmoonfiend · 28/03/2008 16:00

dh has started a blog (yes, I know, Yawn) but the thing is...he is a fantastic writer. 15 years we have been together, and I had no idea he could write!

procrastinatingbollyknickers · 28/03/2008 16:03

DH surprised me the other day by saying he likes hip hop. What is that about? He's a violinist who likes classical music and turns up his nose slightly at the pop and rock I listen to. And then he's started watching American Idol. We've been married 13 years.

He also surprises me by taking me away for the night when I least expect it, but that's slightly different.

lennygrrr · 28/03/2008 16:18

all the time. he is a mystery to me, that man.

No1ErmaBombeckfan · 28/03/2008 16:21

DH boringly predictable - but that's the way I like it...

cocolepew · 28/03/2008 16:26

Yes, he still doesn't wash the sink after doing the dishes and leaves wet towels on the bed, even though I tell him every day not to.

Dh suprises me constantly with the increasing volume of his snoring. ( can be heard from the garden through DG!)
Apart from that.. very predictable / boring.

ibiza1 · 29/03/2008 13:32

my husband tells me i am beautiful all the time, he doesnt surprise me on a day to day basis but he bought me a car for xmas as i passed my test last august and we had an old banger that kept breaking down and i was so new to driving it shot my nerves.
but then we have to ask ourselves do we surprise r men? yes ok we cook and clean for them, but do we buy them wee surprises?
thats one for thought girlies !

vixnpips · 29/03/2008 18:03

Yes I do.. just bought DH a new laptop and set of golf clubs about 4 weeks ago and it wasn't even his birthday!
I do quite a few things mostly small.. but I'm lucky if he returns the thought.

motherinferior · 29/03/2008 18:09

I'd be bloody surprised if my partner expected me to cook and clean 'for him', that's for sure. If he expected presents on top of that, his surprise might take somewhat unprintable forms.
