DH becoming an old man...

Slurping hot drinks (this is new)
Shuffling around in slippers (can you not pick your feet up?)
Making moaning, groaning, huffing noises with every movement

He's 51. As am I.

It's driving me insane. I feel really bad when I inevitably say something after trying not to for weeks or days. I feel like I'm picking on him when he's a good father and husband in many ways. (Right now he's sorting out a burst tyre on my car which I had to abandon, and he picked me up last night, out early to sort it out).

So I blurt it out: why are you slurping your drink like that? And then I feel bad. But it's just SO IRRITATING.

Me and a group of friends are convinced that men age faster than women.
men get boring and stuck in their ways. Women get freed from childcare, more dynamic and better looking.

Tewkesbury · 07/01/2024 20:19

Also more optimistic

Pussygaloregalapagos · 07/01/2024 20:23

My husband does all that stuff too similar age. Sometimes I mention it.... but then I don't want to be a nag as my Mum was quite naggy and it is exhausting to live with someone who is always on your case .... I try and make a joke about it..

That can backfire though, because I started laughing when he farts... to let him know I was aware..... now he just thinks I find it funny (understandable) so farts freely.

I have alot of annoying habits though and he is a good bloke in general and as others have said... better than the alternative.

I think this is one of things thats true and not at the same time, I know quite a few grumpy middle age men and just as many grumpy middle aged women as well.

Yeah maybe.
we all need to self reflect

Totally with you on this! I feel like I'm the same as always while he looks over the top of his glasses at me and moans about noisy kids and "who put this here" or "why do people xyz" when it's obvious he's only talking about me. Friends report the same.

Why isn't there male HRT? Forget the blue pill for willies if they really want to improve their lives they need to stop acting all whingy and decrepit!

There is! Lots of men take testosterone when they get older since they go through a drop in hormones too. I’ve usually seen it just referred to as low testosterone or “low T” but I personally like the term “manopause.”

I’m not sure if it’s something the NHS offers but since moving overseas I’ve noticed that it seems like a common treatment in the US and Canada for men as they age.

Wytchy · 07/01/2024 22:43

yes he sounds like a decent man but the slurping and shuffling would drive me potty. men tend to accelerate towards old age much faster than women in my experience though.

Not really something the NHS really cares about, a man would have to be on knees with fatigue before a DR would do anything in the UK

The 'male menopause'

Read about "male menopause", where some men develop depression, loss of sex drive, erectile dysfunction and other physical and emotional symptoms when they reach their late 40s to early 50s.

The misandry on this thread is vile and disrespectful.

and equating a man's worth to the fact they're convenient for a bit of DIY and it saves you money is as bad as a man saying a woman is useful to get the housework done and cheaper than getting a maid.

You are underestimating the importance of DIY and general handiness.
But if you’re living at home maybe your mum sorts all that out for you x

DonnaBanana · 08/01/2024 22:00

I don’t get where all this modern idea of 50 not being old comes from. It’s not elderly no but it’s hardly young. He is almost two thirds to a good healthy life expectancy so it is totally fine to expect to be slowing down a bit.

Does Viagra do anything to help any of this behaviour?

Or is it exclusively ...

The willypilly?

Geppili · 09/01/2024 00:30

If this is new behaviour, maybe get him to the GP. Shuffling and stiffness can be a sign of Parkinson's.
