Can someone’s location change on tinder if they don’t sign in?

Just that really.
Ive not been feeling right for a while, unappreciated just not how it used to be.
I went back to our first messages on tinder and his location was showing less than 1km.
checked again today and it’s 11km.
Can this happen if he’s not using the app?
I realise even asking this is crazy and if I don’t trust him I should end it.
My mental health is not good in general at the moment I’m taking new medication so I’m hoping they will settle down soon and don’t know if they’re making things worse in the meantime.

We’ve been together 18 months.

I’ve no idea about the location but honestly, if a relationship is making you feel this unhappy and insecure you should end it. A partner is meant to make you feel safe, loved, cherished. Not question his every move and your own sanity - and I say this from bitter experience.

Tinder does this thing all the time with me where when you first click on a profile in messages it says 1 km but then if you click again it says the actual distance so I would not stress about that part of it.

No, location services only update in tinder if you're using the app, though the above poster might have a point about it being a one off glitch.

That said, 18 mo in and you both still have the app and a profile? Have you never had the discussion about deleting it?

SpringIntoChaos · 26/06/2023 06:49

It only changes location if you login.

jelly79 · 26/06/2023 06:51

Why does he still have a profile?

LuckyCats · 26/06/2023 07:03

We have been exclusive since a few weeks after we met. I just hid my profile and deleted the app from my phone then.
I re downloaded it to check yesterday.
i really didn’t think he would be the type to cheat but everyone thinks that don’t they.

But if you've downloaded the app again, he may see that you're on there and wonder the same about you?

People in relationships should not be on dating apps. It should have been deleted by you both as soon as you became exclusive so nobody would be accessing it since then.

bibbityboppityboo · 26/06/2023 12:37

If you're the one on tinder did you check it both times in the same location? You didn't check once at work and once at home did you or something similar?

Not sure if it can track your location, often when setting up an app you can give it your location different ways e.g. only when using app or all the time. If it's picked all the time it might just be background tracking?

MeltWithYou · 26/06/2023 16:22

Tinder uses IP addresses to identify location. ISPs register these at often very different locations to where they are assigned.

This is why some people on Tinder might say, despite what tinder says I am in X town.

When I use my home connection and trace my IP it is in one of two or three towns many miles away from me. Using mobile connections is often much more accurate and the nearest mast will have IP addresses much more geographically correct.

This would mean if I connected with my home connection then it switched to mobile then I would literally jump miles.

Don't sweat it. They don't use GPS so it isn't accurate at all.

Smooshface · 26/06/2023 16:51

I don't know about tinder specifically but when i first use an app with location it asks if i want to track it only while using it or have it tracking in the background, so it might be innocent, but i would say not disabling profile once in relationship would be a bit of a red flag...
