Argh, my dad has done it again

Yesterday I was chatting to him on msn about wether it would be better to have my hall, stairs and landing skimmed or have the bottom half done in wooden cladding.

He knows about these things, I don't and so he said 'I am at Sarah's (my cousins) tommorow (doing work on her exstension), so I will pop in after that and have a look'.

I didn't ask him to do this, he offered, and my cousin lives about 2 min away from me in a car, my dad literally has to drive past my door to go home.

So at 3pm I text him to see if he is still coming and get this reply 'don't know', so i text back, 'right ok'.

Have heard nowt since, but would like to bet he has gone straight home.

I am mega pissed off.

Don't rely on him nutty.

Ask someone else.

Is Sarah paying him for work carried out?

Do you?

Am guessing money must be at the bottom of this.....

I would paper the lot & not ask him for anything again.

Just go for paint. Easy to redo when you get fed up, or paint over when the kids do something unmentionable. Cladding can get dented or chipped and will cost a lot more.

Just go ahead and do it yourself and don't say anything more to your dad.

nutcracker · 21/02/2008 16:44

Ok strike that, he is coming now

Yep Sarah does pay him, but Sarah can afford to pay for my whole street to have work done, I can't.

That said, I have now offered to pay him, so I dunno why he hates my jobs more than anyone elses.

I am going to tell him today that I need a straight answer, if he doesn't want to do it then say so and I will have to find someone else, or more than likely have a go myself and bodge it up.

I can't just paint it Freckle, it is in too much of a state.

Can you get someone to sand it down and replaster? Or just cover with wallpaper lining paper which can then be painted?

nutcracker · 21/02/2008 17:46

Right, he has been and I have been given my orders LOL.

Got to go and buy a snader tommorow (which i was anyway),. and have a go at sanding a patch of the wall down and then painting it so my dad can see if that would work.

I am 99.9% sure that it won't work, but i will have a go.

He weasn't keen on the cladding idea, but thats because he'd have to do it. If i have it skimmed i'd have to get someone else to do it.

I gave him a list of my jobs, told him my budget and I think I finally got through to him, that I need him to only say yes he will do it, if he will actually do it.

I think you will find a sander more effective.

Though based on your description of what is on the walls a snader might be just as effective.

Although not doubly effective.

Miaou · 21/02/2008 17:56

lol just sat here for ages wondering what a snader was

Miaou · 21/02/2008 17:59

disclaimer I DID work it out before bree posted, I just type slowly when juggling ds2

nutcracker · 21/02/2008 18:53

ROFL

Actually dynamite would be more effective, but I think the HA might have something to say about it
