Friend distant, grieving struggling

One of my closest friends, whom I have gone many years of not talking because of falling out but we will always end up talking. We know we are both there for each other no matter what. They've had a bereavement in their family recently and have confided in me that every night they've been necking back booze, the council are on their case about moving asap too. They got laid off for work because the company only have a set amount of grievance day per year, and my friend took more for the sake of their mental health and coping/ readjusting. They did manage to get another job fairly quickly and everything seems ok on that front. They've told me they're getting angry at little things and even got in a fight the other week.

I need to help my friend so any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
