Birth trauma - lack of interest in sex

Hi all,

I had a very traumatic birth 9 months ago. Had therapy which helped massively, no panic attacks anymore etc. But my confidence and even interest in having sex has not come back. It’s like I’m scared or something and it’s hard to feel into it.

Has anyone else felt like this?

Thanks

I felt this way for a few months after giving birth. It's important not to rush yourself. Being patient with myself really helped to regain my interest in sex.

I would take things very slowly and gently, OP.
Start by simply masturbating, to get back in touch with your own sexual feelings, and reassure yourself that everything still functions in that department. Self induced orgasms are a good way to get yourself interested again and remind you what you are missing.
Next, when you feel ready for a practice run, get your DH to lie flat on his back and promise he will not move or take any part in the proceedings. Lube yourself copiously, and just lower yourself onto him very slowly and carefully, so you have complete control of the depth and speed of penetration. If this proves painful at any point, stop. If not, experiment with moving carefully up and down, and check you are still comfortable. If all goes well, you can then proceed next time to more normal intercourse, provided your DH is warned to go gently. Most women are ok after their 6 week postnatal check, but significant birth injuries can prolong the recovery period. Good luck!
