how do fellow parents keep their house tidy/ clutter free? It was far easier when it was just us 2 but now we have a baby and just can’t stop the random gifts etc
I think a large part of the issue is that my MIL (bless her) keeps buying random items, toys, clothes etc. It’s her first grandchild so I don’t want to take that joy of buying cute baby outfits etc away from her but she seems to buy the wrong size for the wrong season and doesn’t give gift receipts either. I’ve sold a lot of the unsuitable outfits on Vinted but I’m just a bit miffed as she buys so much stuff a few sizes ahead that when it comes to buying stuff for baby in that size my husband is like- well we’ve already got lots of babygrows etc in that size. And he is right. I would rather be the one having a choice in what baby wears etc. She’s not buying hideous outfits tbf, it’s mainly JL and M&S but a lot of it is stuff that is “okay” but not necessarily what I would’ve chosen.
She is also on a pension and with the cost of living atm I don’t want her spending a fortune. I have told her this but she thinks I’m being polite.
to be honest this gift giving started wayyy before baby was born. Her favourite pastime is going around charity shops and buying trinkets etc. Her house is very cluttered/ borderline hoarding and she doesn’t like to throw anything away/ donate anything etc and now is starting to gift us some of her stuff which husband is then reluctant to get rid off. So far we’ve had several cases and antique bowls in the last month, another tea pot- all while we’re trying to baby proof our house. We just don’t have the space and I am more of a minimalist/ not keen on trinkets etc.
Ive tried to broach topic with hubby and he thinks we shouldn’t say anything as it will upset her, keep selling stuff on Vinted etc. But the truth is selling stuff takes time, then I have to go to post it etc. I’d rather just not have it to start with!!! Help!
