Partner of 10 years has just said to me randomly out of the blue, whilst watching tv “if we weren’t together do you think you’d be able to cope with the kids” I asked him why he’s asking that and he said he was just wondering🤔

Could it be that he's just tired out and thinks he's been doing more than his fair share, like "what would you all do without me!"

But yeah he phrased it oddly

Doritos22 · 13/05/2023 20:57

@Mummy08m Possibly but I actually do most of the parenting. And the kids have actually behaved today so I don’t really get it. If they had been little shits and he’d been stressed then maybe I could look at it that way but I just don’t know

I ask my husband stuff like this about whether hed cope without me. And whether he thinks I'd cope without him.

No unhappiness or anything behind my asking him, just curiosity really and me thinking out loud. I wouldn't dwell on it.

Doritos22 · 13/05/2023 20:59

@Dacadactyl Fair enough maybe I’m looking too much into it

How old are the kids? He could definitely be wondering if your relationship is going to work out long term. Counselling may be a good idea. Some phases of parenthood are really 'grit your teeth and bear it' - a counsellor may help you both get through these tough times.

Doritos22 · 13/05/2023 21:02

@Galectable They are 6 and 2

Maybe he saw or read something about single parenting?

The question really is why is it bothering you?

Throwncrumbs · 13/05/2023 21:19

I would say back ‘do you think YOU would cope with the kids without me’ !

CadburyDream · 13/05/2023 21:20

Are they a handful?

rainraingoawaay · 13/05/2023 21:28

I ask my other half all sorts of random questions along that sort of vein! Normally when I've seen an advert / tv show / read an article. I'm not planning on leaving him!

Doritos22 · 13/05/2023 21:29

Yes they are a handful! I’m probably just over thinking then🙂
