What STD tests

Wasn't sure where to post this, does anyone have a recommendation of what STD tests to get done if you've been cheated on?

I found some free NHS ones by post but it's only chlamydia and gonorrhoea and I feel like I should be getting checked for more. But my brain is fuzzy and I'm struggling to sift through google searches.

If there is anyone that has been through this recently and can advise I would be really grateful.

Thank you.

I work in sexual health. I'd ideally want to have a Hep B and an HIV test as well. These are blood tests and can also be done at home, but may not be available as at home self-sampling in all areas (what services are provided can vary considerably across geographic areas in the UK). But generally, yes, these are the ones we'd usually test for. There are a few others, but usually are not offered on the NHS if you are not symptomatic.

I work in sexual health, basic sexual health screen is a swab for chlamydia & gonorrhoea and bloods for HIV and Syphilis.

There's no need to test for anything else excluding specific risk factors or symptoms - which would be fully discussed at a consultation.

Those 4 are the most common STIs. Chlamydia is hugely prevalent and gonorrhoea has suddenly spiked too. Syphilis has increased by about 400% nationally.

You can do all 4 tests by post now, or access via Sexual Health clinics.

Go to your local GUM clinic, they will take a blood test for you that looks for HIV and syphilis usually. The swab they often give to you these days, so you can take it yourself - no exposure necessary.

I’d agree with going to the GUM clinic. They’re so lovely, and will make sure you get everything you need.

You can order a test kit online. But I believe it doesn't test for everything. Best going into a GUM clinic for them to do it for you if you can. Good luck.

As I said, at Sex Health clinics we generally only test for 4 main STIs (Chlamydia/gonorrhoea/HIV/Syphilis).

Other tests are only done if specific symptoms are present or if certain clinical criteria are met. We don't test for anything else routinely.

So getting an online kit that tests for the 4 I mentioned above is just the same as attending a clinic.

Warts are a visual diagnosis (not by testing), and things like Herpes, trichomonas are only tested for if symptomatic of those infections.

Our Service only tests for Hepatitis if certain clinical criteria are met (other Health Boards may test for Hep more routinely depending on their population group & local levels of infection).

I would just ask them and get everything possible done and cover all bases. I think HIV takes a few weeks before it will show up or something so depending on when the cheating was you should wait to test for that for the recommended window.
