Finances after split

I've had a few threads on here in the past and I received so much support and I'm really grateful.

I found out ex-dp was cheating last summer and it threw us all into a terrible situation. He lied, cried, threatened to kill himself, said wildly inappropriate things and eventually I couldn't take anymore and left with the DC.

I think I deluded myself that if I left quietly with nothing and supported myself then he would behave decently. I was wrong! He carried on in much the same way and I have put off sorting the finances out for months and months. Tonight I finally sent him an email to begin the process. I'm terrified so I'm just posting again for a bit of support.
