I’m not long out of an unsatisfying long-term relationship and feeling a bit down and hopeless today. I’m not looking to jump into anything just yet, but I do feel that I’ll be ready before too long because my last relationship was so lacking that I may as well have been single for the past 5 years.

I never meet new people these days so I’m feeling pretty nervous, would love to hear some stories of how others met their partners and husbands!

Met through mutual friends - I used to do a bit of running hated it & he asked if he could join me, so we kept meeting to run & started to chat/like each other and had to do this fecking thing we both hated for several weeksGrin & eventually snogged in the park. 23 years later and never run together since

Mightyouandiconfabulate · 15/04/2023 21:13

Both working abroad, met on a night out.

otherwayup · 15/04/2023 21:26

He was my ex dh's friend 😬

Honestly not as bad as it sounds, there was no affair and we got together after my first dh & I had separated!

Isthatascratchonmygrandmother · 15/04/2023 21:27

I had heard of him because he had beat my then boyfriend in an arranged boxing match that I couldn't attend. I went to a nightclub a few months later and locked eyes with the DJ. We got chatting in the smoking area and he told me his name and it was very awkward. Married 11 years 2 DC now 😂

Aposterhasnoname · 15/04/2023 21:29

In a bar on holiday. When the bars closed we sat on a bench outside and talked till about an hour before his transport was due to arrive to take him to the airport. 25 years and still going strong.

In my local. Known his brother for years and we used to socialise as a wider group but me and him had always been taken... until a year ago. Love of my life!!

Mamoun · 15/04/2023 21:38

He was an old friend of a work colleague. Said colleague invited me to his house for a party. That was 12 years ago, married 9 years and 3 beautiful young DCs.

A few weeks later he rocked up as an MSc student in the Dept where I was doing my PhD.

That was in 1997. I found those conference proceedings recentjy. DS was born 11 years to the day that dh and I met.

Friend of a friend, our friend had a massive bbq and invited pretty much everyone he knew 🤣 I saw my now dh and asked another friend about him, (I decided there and then I quite fancied him and was aiming for at least a bit of a fumble at some point!🤣🤣) said hi to each other that night, but that was it. Then kept bumping into him, we always had a laugh, then at another friends birthday party we swapped numbers, about a week later he picked me up to go for a Chinese and that was that! I pretty much never left his ☺️ we've now been together 14 years and married for 4, with 3dc.

I think it's fascinating that even in the age of online dating , most people are still meeting through friends , colleagues or relatives , interesting .

macshoto · 15/04/2023 21:57

'Significant' university reunion - friend of friends.

Phos · 15/04/2023 22:03

I moved in with him 😆Well sort of anyway. We were housemates in a shared house in London. I moved in two weeks after him.

neighboursmustliveon · 15/04/2023 22:07

We met at work. I started where he already worked and we got together on a night out 6 months later. We have been together 22 years this year.
