I posted a while ago about the state of my marriage. Now I'm trying to start getting things I order in my head to leave. I am currently living in Europe but if I came back to the UK, I'd stay with family till I can get on my feet. 2 kids (5 &11 months) My question is where do I start?! Every time I think about cost of childcare, finding work, putting money together for a place, I feel like I'm drowning! Has anyone done this, where did you start.

I would look at:

  • Immigration status and residence rules for you and the children
  • Finances: how will you survive, are you entitled to benefits or have you got savings or..? There are rules around claiming benefits and residence status so check if you meet any immigration rules around this
  • Will your family really house you and do they have adequate space?
  • Is it legal for you to bring your children back?
  • Do you have recent work experience? Are you likely to find work in the UK? Are your skills relevant and up to date?

I’d start with all the legalities first, check you can live in the UK and you can bring children here.
Then look at what if anything you could claim to tide you over until you get a job.
Maybe register with employment agencies? Look at jobs online.
check out nurseries and childminders where your family live.

it is huge moving countries but is doable.I’ve done it 3 times and survived.
good luck.
