Any experience of taking progesterone after hysterectomy?

So I've been using estrogen hrt since starting perimenopause early due to hysterectomy (kept ovaries) but am getting awful cramping certain times during the month. I'm on estrogen only because guidance is that progesterone is not needed as i don't have a womb.

It's been suggested to me that I'm getting cramps at times when my estrogen is naturally higher, thus becoming 'overloaded' with estrogen at that time of the month and perhaps I need progesterone too to balance things out.

I'm being referred, but wondered if others had experience of this?
