Single Valentine's Day

What have you done today if you spent it by yourself? I live near an RHS garden so I've been on a snowdrop walk and a Betty's lunch followed by shopping. Evening at home with my cats and a film. Much nicer than V.Day with my ex.

Sounds lovely! I've been at work and just got the kids to bed. I had my online shop delivered and had ordered myself some cheap and cheerful flowers, not necessarily for Valentine's but just as something bright and nice to have as a treat, usually I don't spend money on things like flowers...but they weren't available so it was just like valentines with my ex (I.E. nothing!) 😂

ErinAoife · 14/02/2023 20:15

@Shamsterdam , same here. On the bright side, my daughter did gift me a necklace and a homemade card for Valentine.

Weekenders · 14/02/2023 20:27

Forgot what day it was til I heard it mentioned on the radio this afternoon.

Always4Brenner · 14/02/2023 20:28

Swimming and loved it no pain in the water then prawn curry for tea and the Tudors on. So very happy another day nearer my London trip.

SpinningFloppa · 14/02/2023 20:32

Nothing, not sure why single people bother tbh, heard people taking themselves out for dinner, having a special dinner at home, pampering themselves I mean why? 🫣

Jellykat · 14/02/2023 20:39

Normal day working.. and feeling sorry for all of those in a relationship, whos partners didnt bother (which i used to experience)
At least i woke up with no additional expectations for the day.
Flowers for all us lovely single people!

Why not? I think it's a nice way to push back a little at the relentless coupled-up-dom of the day.

Definitely better than grouching around all day snapping "some of us are happier single ACTUALLY" which is what I did the first year after leaving my marriage 😂

OP I've been working today so nothing special but I hope you enjoyed your Betty's! (Harlow Carr?)

ssinhk · 14/02/2023 20:47

Uni from 9 to 4pm. Gym till 6 pm. Then took an hour to walk home from uni, nice and fresh air ;)
Then cook a nice meal with seafood. Had a full bag of Toffee popcorn ( god they are SOoo good)…
Now i am thinking to put on the new dress i got over last weekend and make some selfie 🤗

Nsky62 · 14/02/2023 20:48

Had a bug, first year in 13 without cat, awful

SummerWinds · 14/02/2023 20:49

I treat myself to some nice things, but then again l do that throughout the year, l bought a new book, small spring bouquet of flowers, chocolate, and some online plants for my garden. When my children were younger l couldn't afford anything for myself, so it's nice that l can do it now.

Because they value themselves, they think they are worth treating nicely and they're showing that they don't need to wait for someone else to do something nice for them.

That's why.

SpinningFloppa · 14/02/2023 20:52

I think if people were genuinely happy single then they wouldn’t feel the need tbh.

Its like celebrating yourself on Mother’s Day when you are not a parent and buying yourself gifts because you “value yourself”

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 14/02/2023 20:57

This is one of those rules you've just made up, isn't it? single people don't have the need to prove anything to you, so what you think 'genuinely happy single people' would or wouldn't do isn't the issue. Somehow I sense that whatever single people said about being happy to be single you wouldn't believe anyway.

CandleInTheStorm · 14/02/2023 21:00

Mine has been genuinely celebrating the new found love for myself. Was in relationships from age 15 - 36, some good, some abusive. For the last 2 years, I've been single, and I'm in a place now I thought I'd never be... Happy alone.

Every year I've bought my partner a rose, this year I've bought myself a rose. I've had a nice dinner, sat and watched Valentines Day cheesy rom com on TV and embraced finally being in a place when I'd like to find someone but I don't need them and I've had the nicest valentines day I've had in years 🙂

RightOnTheEdge · 14/02/2023 21:14

Just a normal day really. I didn't think of Valentine's day much.
I did see a lot of nice bunches of roses left in Aldi tonight and wondered if they might be cheap tomorrow Grin

Lovely part of the country 😜

B1rd · 14/02/2023 21:26

I spent the day with the love of my life, my DD.
Went to Asda tonight and bought myself a bottle of red wine. I'm off work tomorrow. Had sole possession on the remote control for the 6th year running!
Might head to Tesco tomorrow to buy red roses at a significantly reduced price, like I did last year.

loupielou1 · 14/02/2023 21:34

I brought myself flowers while singing that Mikey Cyrus song in my head lol. Put a candle on and had a bath with my rose petal bath salts. Had a face mask and a glass of Prosecco. Celebrating loving me

I'm more convinced by the folk buying discounted flowers tomorrow tbh, but hope everyone enjoys themselves whatever they're at.

Didn't even occur to me to do anything. Valentine's Day wasn't on my radar at all. I've had a usual day. All goodSmile

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 14/02/2023 22:17

@EvenMoreFuriousVexation Yes that's right. And when I arrived home my ex had been round and shoved a valentine card through the letter box.

I've had Valentine's Days where I've been expected to have sex because of what day it is and sulking when I didn't feel like it or "made an effort" because that wasn't good enough either. This is why I've done something this year.

InBedBy10 · 14/02/2023 22:20

This is my first Valentines day alone in 20yrs.

Honestly it's just another day to me but then I was never really into Valentines day even when I was in a relationship.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 14/02/2023 23:00

I bought myself a small bunch of flowers and told myself I loved me.

My teen dd also bought me a mini orchid which was lovely.
