Male domestic abuse - access to children

Name change and posting for a friend.

I have a male friend who is going through a divorce and shares 3 children with his ex who currently has the children and refuses him access although he's seeing them as-hoc just not as much as he wants to. Mediation is underway but she is harassing him and has previous being coercive and controlling towards him, along with other domestic incidents.

Police were involved but he decided not to peruse as it would potentially damage seeing the children and wanted to resolve amicably but it has got worse and he now has opted to peruse. Police have advised enough to arrest and charge her.

What would happen with the children? And organising access? Could social services help? Or would it still be through mediation?
