Tell me positive age gap stories

I think I am due on my period and I am feeling a bit crappy.

My boyfriend is 8 years younger than me.

Will the age gap be more noticeable as we age? When I am 50 he will be 42 !

It's not noticeable now, I look young for 40 and he looks rugged (in a good way)

Personality and interest wise, we are on the same page and all is good. We also share the same values etc. we both have children with our exes and don't want more.

Anyone got any stories about younger men to make me feel better ? Blush

It's only 8 yrs not much of a gap in your 40's tbh . 18 and 26 will be much more of a noticeable gap than people over 40.
Don't worry just enjoy yourself

My brother has been married to his wife for nearly 40 years. She is ten years older than he is.

One of best friend's partner is 13 years younger - they've been together for about 15 years.

You'll be fine 🙂

My Bil has a similar gap with his wife. Difference was he had no children (she did) They had one together when she was about 40. it has worked out well for them.

Snoopystick · 01/01/2023 22:48

I’m just over 7 years older than my partner. We’ve been together 18 years and no problems about the age gap - we have a bit of a laugh about it but it’s no big deal

RuthW · 01/01/2023 22:59

My partner is 8 years older than me. When we met he was in his early 50s and me in my 40s. I didn't notice the age gap.

Nine years later he seems a lot older than me, has retired and seems old. I have another 12 years of working full time left. The age gap now seems huge.

redbullhabit · 01/01/2023 23:40

Love these - thank you.

@RuthW is it different so you think when the man is older?

You don't feel old at 50!

EndersGame · 02/01/2023 01:35

10 year gap between partner and I. I was 26 when we met. We celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary in March.

Sugaspunsista · 02/01/2023 01:37

I'm 10 years older than my boyfriend. We have been together 18 months.
He's 41 this month ..im 51
I do worry that he will still be young when I'm 60. But it doesn't seem to bother him right now so I'm enjoying it

MMmomDD · 02/01/2023 01:46

This isn’t a huge gap. Good friends of mine have the same and have been in a relationship for almost a decade already, still going strong. She is also 50 now.

One thing I’ll say - you are in peri/menopause phase now and this is when women can start experience symptoms and also age faster: and libido is often affected. If sex is important in your relationship - just be mindful of that.
See your doctor, get on HRT, manage it as best as you can.

Good luck!

Bluelightbaby · 02/01/2023 01:55

I’m ten years older than my DP
his brothers GF is ten years older than his brother
his mum is 6yrs older than his dad

the men in the family appear to like older women lol

I know people with 20+yr age gaps and all good :)

Norachance · 02/01/2023 02:00

My mum was 45 when I was born, my dad was 27. There was never any issues and they had a loving marriage. My mum was always well dressed and never looked her age - age was also never discussed! She died at 85 leaving my dad a widower at 67.

Liveafr · 02/01/2023 08:12

I'm 38 and my partner is 27. We have been together for 2 years and half and expecting our first baby soon! It's the best relationship I've had and I'm really happy 😊.

Whatmarbles · 02/01/2023 08:13

8 years is nowt!!

Youarethesun · 02/01/2023 08:22

I don’t think it’s a huge age gap tbh.

However, people can tell you 100s of times were it’s worked out. And 100s of times where it hasn’t.

That doesn’t really mean much for your relationship. I know relationships of similar age gaps and it’s never caused a problem. I know some where it has, but not til the woman was around 50. No one can tell you what the future is. But it’s certainly not doomed. Personality, where you bother are in your lives etc will all impact the outcome.

At your ages, it really depends more on life plans and goals rather than an age gap, itself. If you want kids together but he doesn’t want them for another 5 years, that may cause problems. If either of you have kids and want kids together, moving in quickly and having a baby is a risky thing to do and (imo) unfair on the existing kids.

If you don’t have kids and don’t want them, it’s fine. But what if he changes his mind in his late 30s. These are all normal relationship issues. People ages often impact things around kids, even when there isn’t an age gap. You just have a different set of things to consider. Doesn’t matter the relationship, we all have things we need to consider. Even if you are the exact same age.

redbullhabit · 02/01/2023 10:26

Thanks again everyone. @Youarethesun we both have kids already so no issue there.

Relative of mine is 7 years older than her husband. They met in their 20s so it was even more "odd" but they're in their 60s now and one of the most loving couples in our family. Been through thick and thin together.

Opaljewel · 02/01/2023 12:55

20s years between me and my partner. Been together 16 years. Have a cat and live together. We've had our ups and downs and we've loved each other enough to see it through. Communication is so important. It'll be 17 this year together and I can't wait to see how this year will be for us. ❤️

I would just say never mind what anyone else says. It's your relationship and if you're happy thats all that matters. People's opinions don't pay the rent and they don't get in bed with you at night. Just be happy doing what you want to do.

Azandme · 02/01/2023 13:01

I'm 16 years older than my partner. Almost four years in, and very happy.

OrlandointheWilderness · 02/01/2023 13:05

My DPs parents have been married 28 years. She is 12 years older than him.
