Friend got pissed off and sent me a snarky message because I said I didn't want to drink during a lunch/ catch up whilst kids are in school, before going to pick them up.
I also said I'd only go as long as I'm not in work and I will drive as I don't fancy drinking in the day mid week.
For context I am agency based so could get a call on the day for work. I really can't be turning work down to sit in a pub all afternoon.

YANBU. I wouldn't drink mid day if I was going to pick up my DD from nursery never mind if I possibly might have to work.

I wouldn’t want to book a lunch with someone who might cancel on the day, however whether you drink or not is no one else’s business!

So want to be able to make a plan for lunch with your friend but you also want to be able to cancel at the last minute if you get an agency call?

Sorry but overall it sounds like a snarky message was warranted.

We wouldn't have to book as it's a cheap well known pub, and as I've had no work the last 3 weeks I need the money so don't want to turn down work.

Honestly, it wouldn't make me feel great or valued to be told that you may or may not make it.

yes they are a big drinker.
I just said il go if I'm not working.
Not like we haven't seen each other as we met up last week & the week earlier too.
Plus I'm not even a big fan of the place she wants to go.
