Mental health facilities

Hi everyone I’m looking for some advice please. The last few years have been really tough for me losing some extremely important family members, changing job away from all my friends, found out best friend is dying and early in the year I officially separated from my husband after months of extreme stress during the separation and years of unhappiness. Basically I feel like my life is falling down around me and I couldn’t take another traumatic event I think it would finish me. sometimes I find that my youngest is still struggling with the separation and I basically feel like the worst mother in the world. I have met someone new who is wonderful but nothing makes me happy anymore. I have thought a lot lately about how my kids would probably be better off without me. obviously they would be upset but they have a good family on their dads side who would look after them. when I think like this it makes me so sad cause I adore my kids and don’t want to leave them but I do feel like I need to get away for a while and look after my mind and my health. My health has been dreadful recently due to stress. I’m wondering if there are any mental health facilities besides the mental health unit in public hospitals that a person can check into or be referred to by a gp? I live in Ireland but would be willing to travel to England also. I’ve contacted a hospital in Dublin as I live in Dublin but they only take people with health insurance. I’ve tried speaking to 3 different therapists but don’t find it helpful at all. Has anyone got any advice? Thanks x

Hi OP - I'm sorry you're feeling so awful but please realise there is no way your kids would be better off without you. If you are feeling that bad that you may be considering putting your own life at risk, you really need urgent help. Can you start by talking to a friend or family member, or is there an emergency mental health line, Samaritans (or equivalent)? What about talking to your GP about medication - it can really help? I don't know anything about the Irish mental health system - hopefully someone else can help here. Mental health services in England are very stretched - if you were extremely at risk over here you would be in a NHS mental health ward unless you went private. You've posted this on the relationships board - it might be a good idea to ask Mumsnet to move it to the mental health board for more traffic.
