How do people here get on with dating apps?

Ive tried POF and initially everything was fine and had a few nice dates and a couple of bad ones like everyone else I suppose but it was serving its purpose. Then I had a series of bad dates which culminated in a date with a guy who had lied about his height 😏par for the course I suppose. The date was short ( my choice) and I politely let him down on the messages. I was then blocked, totally, and I can’t access the site!

I presuming it’s him that reported me, obviously Im not certain but have absolutely no idea why. But even the telephone code thingy doesn’t work.
What other free dating sites/apps do people use & how do you find them, are they any good?

None of them are good, they're full of dross. Most of the men on them want a shag and after that they'll ghost you.

True lol

I met my DH on okcupid so that worked out pretty well for us - was a good few years ago though so no idea what it's like now

In 2014 I came out of a LTR and decided to go on a date with the first guy I chatted to on POF ( first ever foray into internet dating!) I knew I was going to marry him from the first date. 8 years on we’re married happy and have two children! :-)

Hi @Angela59 . Male here. I've never been on a dating site myself, but isn't POF known for being a hook up site more so than a dating site?

In my younger days, I knew a guy who used to brag about the number of hook ups that he was involved with on POF.

How tall was your date?

Ivyblu · 04/12/2022 19:55

Hinge is the most simple one that I have used so far. I met up with a nice guy from their twice he was lovely and very respectful he just lived too far from meet so nothing came of it.

To be continued ..

How tall was your date?

She's already said her date was short...lol

Alicenye · 04/12/2022 20:07

I had the same thing..

On his tinder profile he explicitly said "6'1 tall"

I met him and he's as tall as me ( I'm 5 6) and he had boots with big heals like Tom Cruise

SunflowerTed · 04/12/2022 20:08

Went on dating site 14 years ago and married him! Datingdirect x

emma1103 · 04/12/2022 20:16

I met my husband on POF!

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 04/12/2022 20:19

OP it sounds more like your account has been hacked, they don't ban people from the site because someone had a bad date with you!

PointyMcguire · 04/12/2022 20:21

I also met my DH on POF

Zanatdy · 04/12/2022 20:22

My friend at work uses Hinge, she said it’s more a relationship one rather than casual hook ups. She’s not met any total weirdo’s yet, she must have been lucky. I was debating it, having been single a long time. Then 2 days later an ex colleague asked me out on a date and saved me from the clutches of OLD, well for now anyway

good96 · 04/12/2022 20:24

Facebook Dating is a new app now used so I hear. You don’t need to set up another account - your data is fed through.

MissCaptain · 04/12/2022 20:36

I met my fiancé on Bumble ❤️

curvymumma79 · 04/12/2022 20:39

I met my husband on POF. We have been together 5 years, married since April and have a 3 year old DD.

ComeOnThenFanny · 04/12/2022 20:42

I met my dp on POF, we've been together nearly 12 years.

OKCupid was my favourite for casual sex back then, Tinder wasn't invented 😉

amiold · 04/12/2022 20:47

But what would he have reported you for? Surely they don't just block people on someone's say so

PraiseTheSunshine · 04/12/2022 22:05

I met my husband on POF. We've been together 10 years, married for 8 :)

SpinningFloppa · 04/12/2022 22:09

Am I missing something? Why would a site block you because you didn’t find a date attractive?

Floralsandsmiles · 04/12/2022 22:15

I met my DH on bumble 18 months ago 😊 I would recommend bumble. Far safer for women as you make the move and don't get inundated with messages. Good luck, don't settle, your perfect match is out there! I was determined that my match was out there and didn't give up for 5 years 😊

louderthan · 04/12/2022 22:22

Don't waste your time with POF or Tinder. Both are hookup sites.
I know at least three couples who met on EHarmony and are now married or in serious relationships
