Hi everyone,

My OH told me that when he was younger his mum and step dad had a violent relationship. Sounds like it was on both sides.

I just listened actively but was a little unsure of what to say.

I have never experienced anything like this in my life, and I don’t want to say the wrong thing.

Wise women of Mumsnet - what are the right and wrong things to say about this? I’m sure he will talk to me about it in the future. What can I do to make sure I’m getting it right?

Specifically asking Ladies who have been in the same position. What has made you feel ok/ not ok to talk about this stuff?
