Football/time together

I have been seeing a guy for about 8 weeks, things are going really well, we talk every day and it’s been brilliant. We can only see each other overnight once every 2 weeks (we then meet one day a week for lunch/dinner etc) due to having our own children & work patterns etc.

Its my birthday next week and this weekend falls on our night together but he says he may not be able to make it as he had plans to watch the football. I’m a bit hurt but also think I might be unreasonable due to the length of time we have been seeing each other.

He said he hasn’t made a decision yet as he understands we don’t have a lot of time together but said he does enjoy the football (think family party for the game etc).

What do people think?

At this point I couldn’t get too worked about it tbh. A year down the line I’d hope he’d put my birthday and a rare night together before footie. But it is the World Cup, not just some random match. Can’t you just celebrate another day?

Yea, it's reasonable of him, it's the world Cup!! If it's an England game then totally understandable. Suck it up or see him around the football- perhaps meet after the game or on the Sunday morning.

Yeah I don’t think he’s being unreasonable if he already had it planned, plus he’s not known you long. And it’s the World Cup! Hopefully he will suggest another idea to celebrate your birthday x
