Doubled barrel name

Emhead93 · 07/11/2022 14:03

This might be a random question but I got married about 2 years ago and kept my maiden name.
Although since with had our DD I'd like to double barrel my name but my husband keep his as a single name.
Has anyone done this and do they know if I need a deed poll or is a marriage certificate enough
Thanks in advance

Plenty of people have done it. Unless the law has changed, what you sign your marriage certificate is your name, and you use that to change things like your bank account.
If you signed the MC as Emhead Maidenname, you could go use a deed poll or statutory declaration to change it to Emhead Maidenname-Marriedname.

I'd not bother with changing it legally. If you use a name and people know you by that name, then it becomes yours.

For example, let's say my name is Fayella Carew, but most people know me as Fay Carew, then that's enough for more situations. Bank accounts, passports and legal documents are all 'Fayella Carew'.
