Quick Dating Question(s)

Would dating a man (in his 40’s) who has no social media presence put you off?
Is it expecting now, like a CV…. and to do a bit of background research on them to make sure they aren’t married or just bonkers?

Also, is a well kept beard attractive or a complete no no…

Errr asking for a friend 😬

SM might just be really locked own, so not an issue for me. Boak to the beard though.

Dacadactyl · 04/11/2022 17:32

Surely the beard is down to your personal preference?

Lack of social media would be a big plus point for me. I would like the fact he doesnt live his life online and is secure enough in himself not to have to show off.

CambsAlways · 04/11/2022 17:34

No social media would be a bonus to me, a well kept beard is sexy

SucreSalty · 04/11/2022 17:35

If he uses online dating I would assume he has a private Facebook or twitter or instagram or something so not that tech unsavvy and not that concerned about privacy.. but I know there will be unicorns who only have the dating app or website but boycott all other forms of social media.
Beard is a different matter. Some like no beard, some like a viking messy ratty beard. Groom yourself as you see fit or ask for opinions either online or to a friend if you would look better without a beard. Not all men can carry off a beard.

Seekandyeshallfind · 04/11/2022 17:38

I'm in my (very) early 50's and have no social media presence whatsoever. MN is the only thing I post on. Would I like to be judged on that? No. But I can understand why people might think I have hidden accounts, maybe, as it is quite unusual not to have any at all. But I do think men are more likely not to have a presence than women but thats just my opinion

As for the beard, how can we tell you if you'd be attracted to somebody with a beard?

Watchkeys · 04/11/2022 18:03

Why are you bothered what's attractive to other people? Beards are attractive to some. Clean shaven is attractive to some. Social media users are attractive to some. Non-social media users are attractive to some. Some care nothing about either.

What do you hope to gain from your survey? Are you trying to work out if it's 'right' or 'normal' to find these things (un)attractive?

LyndaLovelace · 04/11/2022 18:07

Where and how did you meet @HairyMedia ?

It sounds as if you want to suss him out first, so why are you feeling like this?

You might be able to find something about him on LinkedIn, Companies House or 192.com, depending on his work etc.

I know lots of older men who aren't on SM at all.

Not that 40s is old- but it's not mandatory to be on SM.

Honest to goodness we don’t need any other comments when @Watchkeys comments !!!!

seriously when I’m wondering if I’m over reacting to something I think “ what would watchkeys say “ it helps a lot !!!!!

HairyMedia · 04/11/2022 18:22

Sorry, am that man with no social media presence, though if you Google my name I appear on my employer’s website.
I just thought perhaps it might be a red flag

Haven’t dated for 20 years so am just trying to get up to speed.

Not keen on beards irrespective of social media presence!

minticecreamisjustok · 04/11/2022 18:24

Just be genuine, everything that puts someone off, isn't for you.

oviraptor21 · 04/11/2022 18:26

Well kept beards are pretty much always good.

CookPassBabtridge · 04/11/2022 18:39

Don't be a sleaze and go for women mich younger than you.

5 years either side of my age I think is reasonable.
I guess it depends on the chemistry and shared life interests.

Op I would find it a bit strange if you weren’t on Facebook but refreshing that you weren’t on other social media. If your name is googleable then it would be ok.

A neat beard wouldn’t put me off, in fact it would be attractive.

CookPassBabtridge · 04/11/2022 19:42

@HairyMedia That sounds good.

I'd be a bit 🤔about complete lack of social media.

Beard is personal taste.

“Calm down, Lynn! You are suffering from minor women’s whiplash”

Probably not wise to post on a forum comprised of mostly females but eek!

Wouldn't bother me - plenty of my male IT colleagues don't do Facebook. I don't Twitter or Instagram. Just don't bang on endlessly about why you don't do whichever platform it is. I would google once I know their name, but wouldn't be put off by not finding anything unless other things made me wonder. There are an awful lot of married men on OLD.

Also, please don't stalk someone on LinkedIn to ask if they've ever considered swinging, just because you can't be arsed to reinstall WhatsApp when it's not working for you...

Well-kept beard fine, full-on bushy Unix beard not fine. Scratchy stubble may look fine, but could limit kissing because of causing soreness.

Thank you, I’m not adverse to social media, I can see the benefits of it professionally, just not really interested in using it myself and haven’t ever needed to.

Beard… I don’t know why I raised it, I’m not bothered either way probably because I wouldn’t like to kiss a tash…
