Partner never wants to dance with me...

As the title says really...

I don't go out very often, but on the rare occasion that we're out together (Christmas Party, someone's wedding, a concert/gig, few drinks in town, being on holiday) he absolutely refuses to dance with me.
Over the years, it's really started to get me down and I'll admit that after a few drinks, I can get quite down about it and just want to go home.

We just sit at the side or stand at the bar while everyone else is having a good time together.
Obviously, I'll dance by myself most of the time, but there are some songs/parts of the evening when it's supposed to be 'dancing with someone'.

On holiday, where we don't know anyone else, we just sit and watch from the sidelines. I dread it.

I'm actually considering asking someone else if they'll be my dance partner!

Is it just me?

I don’t dance, hate it. Husband would never try to make me. Doesn’t bother him.

Mine would rather not but when he does oblige it's like steering a wonky trolley round Tesco. I'm happy to dance alone and impress everyone with my 90s moves.

I wouldn’t be with someone who didn’t dance - but I love to dance so is an important thing for me.
can totally see why it would annoy you, but also some people it’s their idea of hell and so not fair to push them too either

Does anyone think this is strange or is it just me not understanding things. My boyfriend of 3 years Does not like dancing with me outside or even at home after a few drinks . We both love music. However when he goes out with his mates he tells me hes danced so much. And this is every time he goes out. Feels like there are 2 different people one he shows with me versus one with friends. Everyone thinks im a bubbly person so I dont get why he cant have fun and let his hair down with me .

I mean as a dedicated partner id give a kick at the ball a go, is that not the point? Sod what people think, if we dont move put of our comfort zone we never grow, i empathise with op i want someome to enjoy the moment with me and care more about the moment than their temporary dicpmfort or what a bunch of strangers think. I think theres a conversation to be had. Is he willing to stretch out of his comfort zone for ypur happiness and grow as a pair, or are u with the wrong person, is it a sacrifice ur willing to make? These are questions u need to ask urself too xxx (from an extrovert with an ontrovert also unwilling to dance but willing to go out of her own comfort zone for him....)

I've taught guys with two left feet how to dance merengue. If they can walk, they can do that.

Step step step step

He can do that to nearly any music.

I hate dancing, and I hate when people try to make me dance.

Same here…

Well, he asks me to do a bunch of shit I don't want to do and it usually lasts much longer than the length of a song!

Well…don’t 🤷‍♀️ nothing in this world would make me get up and dance, my husband is the same! Go dance with someone else and leave us non-dancers alone!

I love dancing by myself but can’t think of anything worse than dancing with a man. I’m with him OP.

I’m the same as him. Love dancing v by myself but absolutely shudder at thought of dancing with a partner.

Hate is too mild a word - I find dancing excruciating. This became a serious source of friction with DH. He knew I hated it before we got married but never gave up trying to pressure me into it, which only made it worse and worse. Don't do this.

Only thing I hate more than dancing is people trying to pressure other people into dancing.

The problem is, for someone who really finds dancing excruciating, it's not "just a little kick at the ball" or a bit of stretch out of the comfort zone. It can actually be unbearable and make one feel ill. And one's partner nagging and pressuring you to get up on the dance floor makes it 100 times worse. And then them sulking or getting angry. It's just unbearable.
