Phone location

What would you assume if google locations located your partner's phone at a nearby address within walking distance in the morning between 6am and 7am for just over an hour?
I checked DH's locations after becoming suspicious of a change of behaviour but found nothing. Just this. I can't remember what happened that morning. I'm also a deep sleeper so it's entirely possible I was still asleep at gone 7am if he hadn't woken me up.

Did it give an actual address or a general location. Walking the dog. Posting a letter. Have you asked him. Whats led to you tracking his phone.

HairyMcLarie · 18/10/2022 12:00

Well what is he normally doing between 6 and 7am in the morning?
In bed next to you? At work? On his way there?

Tootels · 18/10/2022 12:06

Did he lose signal? Turn his phone off?

RebelliousStarrChild · 18/10/2022 12:06

Try not to assume anything. What are the changes in behaviour you've noticed?

It was a point on an actual address. No dog. No letter box in that area. I haven't asked him, no. He was being distant and preoccupied like something on his mind. Listening but not listening if you get me?

Normally in bed or occasionally downstairs watching TV if woken up early.

The phone located at our house until 2am that morning, then was at this other location between roughly 6am and 7am then at our house again until the time he leaves for work.

Right and what were you doing at this time? If you don't remember the exact date what would you normally be doing?

Would you really not notice if he crept out of bed for an hour to pop down the road for whatever potential illicitness?

I have no idea how to find locations on Google but it frequently places me several hundred metres away in the sea on a regular basis...

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 18/10/2022 12:20

My phone can locate me at the house behind us on a different street if I'm in the back of the house. If I'm in the front it picks up our house. That's using find my iPhone

Work day so at 7am I would be getting out of bed for work.

Yes, I'm a deep sleeper so he can get out of bed without me waking.

It stood out because it's a one-off as far as I can tell. The location is always accurate, placing the phone at our address or next door when he's at home.

Just looked at find my iPhone. My AirPods are in the house in the next street (I'm actually looking at the them) and it's currently locating my position as around about 5 houses down

My Apple Watch is apparently on holiday in the village about a km away!

DatingDinosaur · 18/10/2022 12:27

In isolation, I wouldn’t pay too much attention to this. GPS signals can spike quite significantly even when a phone is sat on the coffee table!

During the first lockdown my location put me in Leeds on one particular day (I live a few hundred miles away). I had not left my house on that day.

But trust your instincts regarding his behaviour.

HappyHamsters · 18/10/2022 12:28

My location gets updated several times a day. Sometimes my signal is 50 miles away.

RebelliousStarrChild · 18/10/2022 12:42

I would just keep an eye on it and see if that same location pops up again. I wouldn't say anything yet though because Google maps could be wrong.

Ariela · 18/10/2022 13:57

Definitely wrong. My phone is apparently still at my friend's house (was there for 3 hours this morning) . Only it's not showing as at her house, but at a house on the nearby estate, about 500m away from her house.
It's actually in my pocket, and I'm 5 miles away.

Aprilx · 18/10/2022 14:01

If you noticed his phone was elsewhere and he wasn’t in the house, why wouldn’t you just ask him where he has been when he got back. Confused

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 18/10/2022 14:07

Personally I'd be treating it as a glitch. Your phone location is only accurate if your GPS is on and "can see" a satellite. While this is the case, it'll be accurate to a meter or so.

But when you're in a house it generally can't see a satellite, it'll generally assume you're in the last known position but not always.

If an app asks for location while GPS isn't working, your phone will try and work out where it is by triangulating between the nearest mobile phone towers. This is still usually fairly accurate, to within 10 metres or so, but can occasionally give you wildly wrong results.

So, app wants a location, phone decides it's half a street away from where it really is, then an hour later husband gets up with his phone, walks past a window where it connects to GPS, and updates with its real location.

It reads like she didn’t notice at the time but has since seen the log of previous Google locations.

Fraaahnces · 18/10/2022 14:13

Wake up slightly earlier and follow him? The phone location thing is almost never wrong.

DatingDinosaur · 18/10/2022 14:14

And is maybe clutching at straws looking for evidence because his behaviour has changed Hmm

DatingDinosaur · 18/10/2022 14:15

Sorry, above post was supposed to have quoted Thingstodotoday

tandmoo · 18/10/2022 14:15

My DM's location was showing as at her house (twenty minute drive from me) when she was at my house having Sunday dinner, her phone was with her too

It's not reliable

Bedazzled22 · 18/10/2022 16:05

I think the GPS can be really off. My teen is often shown at our neighbours when he’s at home. I remember when he first started secondary school and I checked to see if he’d arrived there ok to see him shown at a street address. I was terrified until I realised that it was because he was in one of the further away school buildings.

Do you have other reasons to suspect something is not right?
