When he works away/ communication

My DP has started going away working for awhile now. I really didn't like it when he first started doing this but have got use to it.
My problem is that if your DP/DH away how often do you hear from them?
I am just leaving him be and let him contact me he does call each day but just feel only if he wants something or not really to check up on me.
I just like my peace when he away but if he doesn't feel to communicate at times then what's the point in us.
I do have friends and family and actually away myself but it's like I always said if he keeps doing this going away we will drift apart because of lack of communication. He won't be coming home until we meet next weekend for an event. I know maybe after that he might end up going away on another job. Wish is good for the money etc but how to still keep marriage/relationship going. At the moment just thinking of my child and unborn baby just seems to be my focus.

I used to do a fair bit as far away as the Far East and anything up to two weeks.

Comms varied depending on where - big time zone differences were less frequent and more expensive.So.

Occasional telephone comms say every 2-3 days on a big trip. Emails every day or two..

Short trips 1-2 days would just message that I'd arrived.

It all seemed to work at the time but I did make sure I did family things when I got back.

There was no wifi or WhatsApp for most of them as well

When he first started it was a call every day, but to be honest that was a bit much. He ended up just FaceTiming if he knew the kids were around.
