Ridiculous advice column

I don't know if anyone reads Pamela Stephenson-Connolly's advice column in The Guardian but the advice is always terrible.

This one takes it to new heights!

Enjoy!

I think she probably wrote this problem herself!

MyCatIsAFuckwit · 16/10/2022 09:03

Chump Lady absolutely tore into this the other day. She did it with her usual finesse and sharp humour 😉

Brainstorm22 · 16/10/2022 09:11

I don't know why they persist with her. They binned Mariella Frostrup whose advice was also always terrible and she made every problem about her.

Annalisa Barbieri and Philippa Perry are great though. Two lovely people.

What have I just read?! So the woman asking the question says she wants affairs, presumably hasn't told her partner and Pamela's advice was do your best? Have I understand that correctly?! 😂

pinkolu · 16/10/2022 09:28

I wonder if she's deliberately reversed the roles? Can't imagine a man saying he's an extrovert, his wife's an introvert and the advise being "crack on"

BloodyHellKen · 16/10/2022 09:38

Annalisa Barbieri is great and always gave fantastic advice. Does she still write for the Guardian?
Many years ago I was at my wits end and wrote into her column but then bottled it in case my OH saw it.
She wrote back to me privately which I thought was lovely and much appreciated at the time.

Brainstorm22 · 16/10/2022 09:46

Annalisa is still there. She also does a podcast now too.

Is she Billy Connollys wife.

Crikeyalmighty · 16/10/2022 10:24

@Cookiemonstersnana Yes she is.

Crikeyalmighty · 16/10/2022 10:27

My own take on this is its all fine providing your partner knows and is fine with it too- I believe the old fashioned expression is 'have an understanding' - and for people like Pamela they have the luxury of knowing if it goes tits up they will be fine and dandy. Problem is so many people arent aware , don't have the luxury of pots of money for just sorting out the situation and hence 'need to know where they stand' to feel remotely secure.

PragmaticWench · 16/10/2022 10:29

I read the book she wrote about Billy and cringed so much for him, she's an embarrassment.
