Usually I wear leggings and hoodies as I work from home and I don’t need to be on camera - easy to walk the dogs too.

Today I have walked downstairs in jeans and a jumper with a necklace on. Thought I’d make more of an effort because it’s the weekend, husband immediately starts laughing and tells me I look funny and then proceeds to find a photo online of some old man (I am a 40 year old woman) wearing a jumper the same colour and a gold necklace like mine… shows me the photo and won’t stop laughing.

AIBU to think “say I look nice or stay quiet”. Feeling quite deflated and ugly now. Only wearing jeans and a jumper? I took the necklace off after that. Am I being too over sensitive?

Personally I would see the funny side if that was the case.

So what you're wearing really reminds him of an image he's already seen online. It's not as though he thought you looked shit and then looked up pictures of old men to make you feel crap.

Did the clothing and necklace look similar? If they did, I'd find it quite funny if it were me. That's the whole thing with internet memes, this looks like this... I'd try not to take it personally.

I would think this was funny. But, I’m pretty secure about my appearance AND I know my DH thinks I’m gorgeous. So, I wouldn’t take it as a dig, just a silly joke.

Are you uncomfortable with your appearance? Or is your DH generally not complimentary?

Anyway, bottom line is that you didn’t like it, your feelings are valid, and I’m glad he apologised.

I don't mind a good ribbing, but it has to be something the recipient is not sensitive about. If they are, it's just bullying. Fine line, but a line all the same.

Some colours (mustard, dark green etc) can be seen as old mannish (but also cool). I don't think it's intentional, he feels bad. Maybe he's just happy with the leggings version of you......

I’m not saying you shouldn’t be offended. I wouldn’t be upset about this, If my partner said this to me, I would just think he was taking the mock & probably laugh…but then remind him of all the cringy things he’s worn over the years..(I know yours wasn’t cringy at all). Things like this just don’t bother me! It’s an outfit. It’s not like he’s saying you’re fat & smelly!

I would’ve left the outfit on & insisted how nice it was & that as long as I like it, that’s all that matters!
