Last time I internet dated I used guardian soul mates.
fitted my demographic quite well.
Understood the format etc
now it's gone what would you recommend
mid fifties single woman. In many ways typical guardian reader...

I think the Telegraph dating site took over from it. Actually I think it was the same site anyway!

PotteringPondering · 30/09/2022 00:38

Yep, really miss Guardian Soulmates too (50s single man, Guardian reader). Closest I've found in terms of types of people is probably Bumble. But swiping right or left with minimal information is really not the same as the longer, more thoughtful profiles.

Would also be interested in recommendations re site/s Guardian Soulmates types use now...

From the Guardian to the Telegraph?! Far too much like crossing the floor 😖Isn't there a dating site linked to Classic FM?

MrsMacIsBack · 30/09/2022 13:12

Renowned matchmaker here. 💘

Am I the only person thinking that @Realign and @PotteringPondering should go on a date?

Weefreetiffany · 30/09/2022 13:43

I agree!

Exactly! Not a recommendation I could take either.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 30/09/2022 13:45

Is MySingleFriend still a thing? (Caveat: I haven't used it in years.) But the 'twist' of getting your friend(s) to write your bio is quite a good one, I always thought.

Sadgirlonatrain · 30/09/2022 15:52

I bet @Realign and @PotteringPondering are already in each others PMs 😉

PauliesWalnuts · 30/09/2022 15:54

It's such a shame it's gone - I met my other half on it literally the month it closed, and he's been around ever since. The good thing about it was you were fairly sure you wouldn't be going on a date with a stark raving Tory....

Sadgirlonatrain · 30/09/2022 16:21

Ha, that's what I failed to protect myself from @PauliesWalnuts and now I'm stuck in a right old predicament... 😐

Dery · 30/09/2022 16:50

“I bet @Realign and @PotteringPondering are already in each others PMs 😉”

Hope so!

dontputitthere · 30/09/2022 16:56

Ah I've found my people! I miss soulmates.

THE place to be if you wanted a beardy vegan cyclist.

Seriously it was the only place I was guaranteed not to find a brexiteer/raving tory. Sigh.

PauliesWalnuts · 30/09/2022 17:30

I did actually get a beardy cyclist! (Not a vegan though but neither am I…). He likes bikes and hills and so do I so we rub along quite nicely.

PauliesWalnuts · 30/09/2022 17:31

But are you now HappyGirlOnATrain @Sadgirlonatrain ?

Sadgirlonatrain · 30/09/2022 17:51

No @PauliesWalnuts 😭I might just hang around in this corner though, just in case... For future reference....

Realign · 02/10/2022 19:25

I'm so sad no one told me where everyone from soulmates is hiding. I looked at the telegraph and I'm pretty sure the men there would be horrified by me!

Ah. I see you Mumsnetters have been trying to set me up

Ah Guardian Soulmates! Met DH through it and have been together ever since. Some radio stations have dating sites don’t they? Jazz FM and Classic FM I think?

HuntingoftheSnark · 02/10/2022 19:36

@Realign if you discover where they have gone, please share.

Olivemitteridge · 02/10/2022 21:19

Surely a gap in the market …

justmeand2DC · 02/10/2022 23:37

I dabbled in OLD on and off about 5 years ago starting with Soulmates but a fellow MNer recommended OKCupid to me and I met DP on that. I would say about 50% of my recommended matches on OKC were also on GSM.

The format is very different with an unfiltered spectrum of people but if you answer enough questions on things that matter to you it works surprisingly well. Much better than swiping on the basis of a photo and a couple of sentences. Well, that was my experience anyhow (also a mid 50's woman)..

ManAboutTown · 03/10/2022 00:46

The Guardian is the sort of hypocritical rag I wouldn't bother to wipe my arse with (see where the money comes from)

WalkthisWayUK · 03/10/2022 01:05

Ah yes also remember Guardian Soul Mates!
Had some really interesting dates on there. No matches, and one raving Tory! But I liked taking the time to actually read profiles. Mind you, as a single parent at the time all those ‘liberal, lefty leaning’ guardian guys still ignored me for childless women… but were up for sex apparently (was told so a few times 🙄) so it was no guarantee of gentlemen I can assure you!

OldFan · 03/10/2022 02:47

it was no guarantee of gentlemen I can assure you!

Definitely not. I dated some when it was still in the actual paper. One was incredibly vulgar.

I heard that the drawback of the online site was there were a lot of members in London, but in some areas there weren't many members at all.

Surely there must be a leftie dating site? Will look tomorrow.
