On the CSA calculator…

Do you deduct the pension percentage? The guy on the phone said no as it will likely be employer contribution and not his contribution so can take the headline pay. Is that right?

Employer pension contributions aren't normally included in gross pay, deductions shown would be his employee contributions. Unless by headline pay you mean something other than the gross pay figure on his payslips? Who is the guy on the phone, the CMS helpline?
