This is Icky right?

Haven't dated for a year thought I'd try again as bit bored and want to have some male company.
Met "Dave" 3 weeks ago, very funny, handsome, single parent..in actual fact he was lovely.
Due to meet this week (both had work/family commitments in meantime) and I had to tell him I couldn't see him or speak to him as was having a family crisis. The reason? He was.. too nice? His texts were like a hallmark card, and this is the Ick factor.. he kept calling me "cute snow leopard " ?? When I asked he said was the cutest animal he had seen and I was the cutest person so..
Am I horribly jaded and cynical? The reference bugged me, irrational? Or as a 46 yr old professional woman is it a bit patronising? Texts like hope your day is as lovely as you are? I found irritating and unnecessary.
Does anyone else see what I mean or have I been harsh? After 1 date I felt a bit overwhelmed about the "gushing " nature of his communication.. I think I just wanted to see what other people think of this..as I haven't told anyone IRL.

He sounds like he’s either love bombing you or he wears his heart on his sleeve and gets way too emotionally attached too early before really getting to know you properly. Either would be red flags for me.

LHReturns · 14/09/2022 00:33

Yuck.

Spudina · 14/09/2022 00:34

Icky. Definitely.
Sorry OP

carefullycourageous · 14/09/2022 00:35

Yeah that would annoy me. Let him down gently though in case he is just a very soppy person.

Aquamarine1029 · 14/09/2022 00:36

Gross. What an absolute tit. I'm embarrassed for him.

LHReturns · 14/09/2022 00:37

He probably says ‘make love’ also.

SerenaB12 · 14/09/2022 00:40

SerenaB12 · 14/09/2022 00:42

Yea, I thought that, after 1 date to text AM and PM with weird as fuck reference to baby snow leopards?? I'm glad I'm not being a duck it is off..

Nope, his ears would be ringing from the sound of my bits slamming shut, my skin is crawling for you OP.

Pixiedust1234 · 14/09/2022 00:48

ewwww. I wouldn't like that after 6 months but one date? No thank you.

Musti · 14/09/2022 00:53

Yuck. Completely meaningless and weird after 1 date

wackamole · 14/09/2022 00:55

It sounds like he's kind of running with his own pre-conceived ideas of a relationship, including various cliches, rather than letting something develop naturally between the two of you based on each of your personalities.

It's mainly snow leopard kittens that are considered remarkably "cute", because they're deceptively cuddly and cushy looking with those clumsy oversized paws they haven't grown into yet. An adult snow leopard might be majestic, sleek, elegant, fierce, and deadly rather than cute! So, maybe a bit infantilising.

CharlotteRose90 · 14/09/2022 01:13

Nope I would be blocking the minute I was called a snow leopard or some crap. That’s weird In itself.

SettingsO · 14/09/2022 01:14

God. You must be very cute OP 😀

SerenaB12 · 14/09/2022 01:50

I'm not THAT cute.. 😆 thinking he ran away with his own ideas.. glad I'm out of it!

mackthepony · 14/09/2022 02:11

Is English his first language?

SandAndSea · 14/09/2022 02:40

I'm wondering if you're dating my ex! If you are, I'm sorry to say, it's all bullshit.

Fraaahnces · 14/09/2022 05:06

Good grief! I’m 5ft talk, petite and blonde. Anyone that calls me “cute” makes me want to throw up. (I know they see me as childlike and malleable despite my 50yrs on the planet.) To reduce you to cartoon character also makes me wonder if he isn’t a Furry.

TomPinch · 14/09/2022 05:26

Perhaps he means you like eating raw meat and taking a shit up some mountains.

This. ‘Cute’ is for small children and animals. The use of it for adults is icky and patronising.

What a piss funny and loaded with sense replies, thanks you lovely lot, I couldn't articulate why it annoyed me .. you in various ways have hit the spot. He was blocked yesterday AM, I couldn't bear the thought of another message. . I wonder if his MO pays off???
