My DH said if we ever split up, he wouldn't rule out saying a 17 or 18 year old. This has really not sat right with me. He says if they were mature enough, he wouldn't let their age put him off! He is really not fussed about it, he says he would not actively pursue a 17/18 year old, but if they clicked he would go for it.

Would this make you feel uncomfortable? It really has not sat right with me but I dunno if IABU

I don't think this sort of discussion is healthy

Why did you ask that question?

Why did you ask that question?

Which discussion are you referring to ? The one between people here or the one between the op and her partner
as for the discussion here I for one certainly think it’s a very important issues that society need to discuss openly and address why so many men seem to think grown men dating teenagers is ok
As for the OP and her partner she didn’t say she asked a question I don’t think just that they were having a discussion and he brought up that it would be something he’d consider if in that situation
I would certainly want to know if I was with a man who felt that was acceptable . I’d think it very unhealthy for a man to hide these ‘attitudes and values ‘

I know a lot of men early 20s to 30 pretty well, and none of them date teenagers. There is also a culture amongst them of being very scathing about those that do, so its certainly not the norm in my circle, and your DP would find himself on the receiving end of some less than desirable judgement and labelling for expressing that view. I'm actually very surprised that he isn't aware of that and thought it an OK thing to say.
Personally, it would make me uncomfortable. Its not the number of years between them, more that 17/18 is so very young. I'd be worried about a 30 year old man who thought he could 'hit it off' with a school girl, and what that said about either his maturity, or the power dynamic he thought desirable in a relationship.
