Why I am getting this for child maintenance??!

I get 620 a month from ex. He is on 112k. When i put it into the calculator it comes up higher. He is in nhs so I thought his pension would be 14%? I’ve deducted that and it still should be higher than 620.

He refuses to speak so I feel I either let it go or go to CM directly… unless I’m missing something?

If he's on £112k I wouldn't be surprised if he was making additional pension contributions to reduce his tax (and CMS) liability.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 14/08/2022 17:31

Isn’t it capped at a certain point? £40k?

Googlecanthelpme · 14/08/2022 17:31

It is based on last tax years earnings usually so was he on that salary last year or has he had a pay rise(s) which might have caused it to be lower?

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 14/08/2022 17:32

Is this done through cms? If not the reason is he’s just not paying you enough. And if you’re not you need to.

Tyeippp · 14/08/2022 17:32

@Googlecanthelpme he has been on this a couple of years.

@Lastqueenofscotland2 i wondered that but he’d have to reduce it quite a bit and also I thought as a higher earner there were adverse tax implications in doing that.

Imagine earning 112k and only paying 650 for your child anyway. Disgusting.

The cap is 3k a week so he’s a bit off of that (156k pa)

XmasElf10 · 14/08/2022 17:33

Depends if CMS is calculating or the ex. If it’s him then he’s likely under paying!!

@Mumnetter1234 I know. He has no involvement. Very selfish man unfortunately.

total prick, is he paying lump sums for anything, what custody does he have? Go to CM yourself.

SudocremOnEverything · 14/08/2022 19:00

My ex

bluberries · 14/08/2022 19:01

If you're not happy with it go through CMS. But be prepared that his figures may be correct. For example he might have other children he is also paying for or he may life with someone else who also has children. You may never know.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 14/08/2022 19:02

Possibly another child he pays for? We’re you with him long enough to be sure about things like that?

SudocremOnEverything · 14/08/2022 19:03

My ex makes extra contributions to reduce his CM liability. There’s bigger all you can do really if he is.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 14/08/2022 19:03

X post.

Sprig1 · 14/08/2022 19:04

Why haven't you asked the CMS to calculate what he should be paying. I can't see any reason why you wouldn't.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 14/08/2022 19:05

It could be a lot worse OP. A lot of mums get £5 pw. Or nothing at all.

That’s absolutely disgusting that that is allowed!

vodkaredbullgirl · 14/08/2022 19:07

Go through CM, how many children do you have with him??

Itsthelookitsthelook · 14/08/2022 19:09

He has another child so his contribution is split between the two

That's not really relevant.

OP, I suggest contacting him and explaining about the amount you've calculated and see if he is willing to increase the amount. If not, then I'd contact CMS.

Nekomata · 14/08/2022 19:12

I know you said he refuses to speak but he can still listen as you have a valid point.

TooHotToTangoToo · 14/08/2022 19:13

If he won't speak to you about it go straight to cms, he will have to provide them proof of earnings and any pension contributions.

I think it is, slightly, and I only mention it because a) there’s a limit to the options and b) I think OP has posted about this before. You can lose a lot of time chasing the impossible.

Are you the poster who ended up in a legal battle with this consultant ex OP?

@Itsthelookitsthelook ah so he is paying another £620 a month to another child, which means his overall CMS contributions are around £1200 a month which sounds about right ish (you can go on the GOv CMS calculator which shows someone with two kids with different people have to pay around £1200 a month in total)
