My husband can be so charming and complimentary towards me.
Then when he’s stressed he becomes derogatory and not so charming I was wondering is there a name for this behaviour? He’s also very contradictory in what he says so one day he’s telling me I’m beautiful and the next he’s telling me I need to lose weight as I’m fat. (Which I’m certainly not) TIA

If every time he’s stressed he turns nasty and says horrible things such as that, I’d say overall he’s not a very nice person. It doesn’t matter what mood you’re in, you shouldn’t blame or project it onto someone who hasn’t caused it. It’s kind of similar to rude customer service people. Like, we get it, you hate your job, but is it our fault you work here?

Yes, it's called being an abusive wanker who doesn't deserve you.

He sounds like a total tool to me. One of the things I've always been alert to is how a partner behaves when they aren't in a good mood. Been the end of a couple of relationships or at least making me indifferent when they ended

I always think the ultimate test of someones personality is when they are under stress. If he is displaying this behaviour in a situation of stress this will only lead to gaslighting and abuse. I'm really sorry.
