Advice please, police involved

Hi, I, hoping someone might have some advice.
my ex partner physically assaulted me a couple of weeks ago.
the police attended as they were called by a neighbour who heard what was happening and I attended the hospital for a minor injury.
I declined giving a VPS as I didn’t want police involvement and also my ex is a police officer so I had concerns about that and not being believed.
the police have kept in contact and explained without me giving a statement he is unlikely to be prosecuted as there is no evidence. Fine, I will have to deal with that.
now, however the police have been in touch and said the neighbour gave a witness statement and the CPS may take it forward. I am now incredibly worried I will have to attend court, or give a statement. Rightly or wrongly I just want to move on, I haven’t told many people about this so don’t have a huge support network, but have been speaking to a professional.
if anyone has any experience of how things will progress I would be very grateful, thank you.

You know if you gave evidence it would at least be on his record so under Claire’s law other women would know he was a risk to them

i hope you’re ok

these things are rarely a one off

This is a really good point that I hadn't thought of, thank you.
