Mum in early 40's with primary DC. Recent symptoms:

Heart palpatations
Irritability
Annoyed with DP
Hot
Insomnia (2 hours a night some nights)
Lethargic
Frustration
Tears
Fuzzy head
Guilt after crying/venting

Annoyed with DP is the main one...

Am running the pill continuously (felt worse before I started it a couple of years ago) but these symptoms are doing my head in.

Yes! Anger and rage was my worst symptom.

Whatliesbeneath707 · 30/07/2022 15:30

Yes, quite possibly the perimenopause. Download the Balance app from Dr Louise Newson, track symptoms & then consider speaking to your GP about HRT, if indicated.

It could also be linked to problems with your thyroid gland so I would seek medical advice as soon as possible. You need to see a doctor.

Symptoms of an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) can include:
Experiencing anxiety, irritability and nervousness.
Having trouble sleeping.
Losing weight.
Having an enlarged thyroid gland or a goiter.
Having muscle weakness and tremors.
Experiencing irregular menstrual periods or having your menstrual cycle stop.
Feeling sensitive to heat.
Having vision problems or eye irritation.

yes, same here.

but tried hrt which certainly didn’t help (i was also on the minipill to stop my periods, been on it for a few years). My rage went worse.!

GP though maybe it wasn’t my hormones so put me on the combination pill to see how i Am.

then im also reliant on B12 injections every 8 weeks.

but im feeling something else is an issue. Im still tired, emotional, pins and needles, weight gain. So im gonna ask for a thyroid test.

menopause, B12 deficiency and thyroid problems all mimic each other. So please ask them to check.

my meno symptoms were listed but no blood test.

I'm wondering if I'm peri menopausal too I'm almost 45. Terrible anxiety mind you ive suffered with that since the birth of youngest dc 10 years ago. Terrible memory, feel overwhelmed with everything even putting the weekly food shop away in the cupboards seems like a massive task. My house has become a complete tip as a result of not being able to keep on top of things and focus my mind to do it. I've also developed hoarding tendencies which I never had before which obviously doesn't help keeping my house tidy. I become very easily stressed and irritable.
Have also developed aching joints these past 4 months or so, I'm slim so it's not down to a weight issue.
Still having regular monthly periods though.
But I know I've changed so much in myself.

My palpitations were anaemia caused by heavy, more frequent periods ( due to peri ) so check that, but yes, sounds like peri.

SuperNovella · 30/07/2022 18:05

Could be caused by peri, the irritability, annoyance with DP, lethargy, frustration, tears, fuzzy head and guilt after crying could all be exacerbated or even caused by the insomnia on its own. Two hours sleep with kids to deal with is a nightmare (I have been there and it's a silent, never-ending hell!). The peri could be causing the insomnia, but I had chronic insomnia for years and it was caused mainly by stress/anxiety and ironically frustration!

I'm mid 40s and wondering if I'm perimenopausal, currently getting the hotness, aching joints a PP mentioned (I'm wondering if this is inflammation?), and the fuzzy headedness. I feel fit for the knackers yard. I have a doctors appointment for next week, going to ask for blood tests, I've had vitamin D deficiency that caused awful lethargy before, wondering if it's that as well (I'm fair and avoid the sun!).

You should book a GP appointment.

@Whatliesbeneath707 - I'm going to look into that app, thanks!

Joining as I too have a doctors appointment Monday to discuss the same thing.

I just feel not myself and like I’m having an out of body experience sometimes. Awful headaches, exhausted (though I do also have 2 DC under 4). More emotional and ragey than normal. Palpitations. I look like a sack of shit and am always getting sick (been in bed since 1500 yesterday and vomiting tiday).

raised peri with the supposed expert at the gps about 2 months ago and was told I’m a little young (I’m almost 44) but me periods are heavy, lasting up to 2 weeks sometimes and I feel like someone is gouging out my insides a la scream movie

going to push harder this time for investigations
