Is this a dig?

So a couple of days ago was my birthday, first since ex and I split (very long-term relationship and he basically left me for secret affair partner). It's been tough and our communication is awful: he's done and said some pretty unkind things. He came to drop off the kids a few days after the birthday (not the first time I've seen him since) and brought a card and a little package wrapped in cloth and lovely ribbon. I opened the gift and it was a couple of bars of 'Tony ChocLonely' chocolate. Am I being ungenerous and paranoid to think he is basically having a laugh at my expense? It feels really disrespectful.

Sorry what is it you think he’s done wrong? You wanted a better gift? My ex never gets me anything for my birthday most don’t 🤷‍♀️

yonce · 28/07/2022 22:33

You genuinely think he spent £4-5 per bar of chocolate in the hopes you'd read the name of the chocolate and focus on half the word?!

That's like £15 in the hopes you'd notice!

Whataretheodds · 28/07/2022 22:34

I've been buying it for a couple of years. Only just realised it's chocolonely rather than chocoloney.

I wouldn't read that much into it. It's a gift, not expensive, not much thought, but a gesture.

Whataretheodds · 28/07/2022 22:34

Unless there's something else going on (besides the affair and departure)

AnneLovesGilbert · 28/07/2022 22:35

I’ve missed why it’s disrespectful.

Hotenoughtoburnasausage · 28/07/2022 22:36

Get him a Cadbury bar with
Twat
On it.

BiscoffSundae · 28/07/2022 22:36

I thought it was chocoloney as well I just had to google 🤦🏻

LadyLolaRuben · 28/07/2022 22:37

No it doesn't seem to be. It would be cheaper for him to just say it and less effort. Why would he think you were lonely, have you given him that impression?

RaininSummer · 28/07/2022 22:42

I doubt it's that at all. I bought my ex a cactus once for his new home. Chose a cactus as he went away for ages with work regularly and a plant would die. He told me later that he thought I was saying he was spiky! Actually with the shape he could have thought I was calling him a dick too :). Just enjoy the chocolate.

Marineboy67 · 28/07/2022 22:47

Tastes like cooking chocolate, definitely 'I daw you coming chocolate"

easyday · 28/07/2022 22:48

Well unless you love the chocolate it's an odd gift no matter what it says.

Hotenoughtoburnasausage · 28/07/2022 22:48

Hope it was a small cactus!

RaininSummer · 28/07/2022 22:48

Made me laugh Hot

ArtemisFlop · 28/07/2022 23:06

Made me laugh too! - I really wish I could fine some chocolate which says 'twat' on the wrapper! 😅

I bought my ex some chocolate that said 'cunt' on it. Wish I'd thought to include a bar in the parcel of his stuff I ended up having to post back to him.

ArtemisFlop · 29/07/2022 06:38

@NewBootsAndRanty I'm very tempted - thanks!

What's disrespectful about it? Does he normally get you diamonds?

I'd have thought you were saying he's a prick.

RaininSummer · 29/07/2022 13:11

You can get cock soup in the ethnic section of supermarkets?

TooHotToTangoToo · 29/07/2022 13:30

I do think he is taking the piss, it's the sort of thing my ex would have done. He'd happily have spent £15 on chocolate to get a dig in. Don't rise to it, I'd go so far as to thank him and say it was lovely.
