My partner (now ex) threatened me yesterday and hit me, he also said he was going to get a knife but I managed to leave before this might have happened. The police were called to the scene and I required minor hospital treatment. I don't know if he was arrested as I left. I have blocked him so don't know if he's tried to get in touch.
I have had a call from the police today saying they will get in touch tomorrow, phone call, and I'm just worried about what's going to happen.
Rightly or wrongly I don't want to take it any further and just forget it happened.
Will I have to give a statement even I don't want to, or go to the station, or will it not be up to me?
If anyone has anything that could help that would be great.

It doesn't matter if you want to take it further or not the police can and probably will look to charge and prosecute without any further input from you.

Thank you, that's reassuring. I can go over what happened again but after that don't want to revisit it and was worried if it went to court I'd have to.

I know it's hard. But he's done it and needs to face the consequences, it won't go to court immediately and you may feel in a better place to be able to help the investigation

Police
Officer here

Without a statement from you the cps won't run the case and he will probably walk free because you my dear are the evidence - and if yku don't want to give a statement or go to court cps won't run it

They only tend to run victimless prosecution's for very serious assaults /gbh/attempt murder type scenarios

Do you have children? If so ss will be contacted

i hope you’re ok. Even minor hospital treatment is too much—- no one has the right to hurt you.
If he walks away from this , and @stillvicarinatutu has described so clearly what will happen, he will try again. Who knows if he’ll have a knife or another weapon.
Think about working with the police, talk to Victim Support or Women’s Aid. This incident might be over, you want to forget about it but I doubt he will.
please stay safe.

Thank you. I thought this would be the case. It wasn't a serious assault.

Thank you, you are of course right, and I do need to think about what to do.
