I sent a WhatsApp messages on Saturday the person has left it unread but has been online how can I delete this? I know there is a trick to reset the time on the phone but that doesn’t seem to be working for me, any ideas? (It’s only saying delete for me)

Why do you want to delete it? They're more than likely read it

yonce · 18/07/2022 13:59

You can press and hold the message, it should come up with options - select delete then delete it. It'll only delete for you though, it's been too long otherwise I think!

BiscoffSundae · 18/07/2022 13:59

Yes I know they’ve read it (or they haven’t as they are not speaking to me) I’m not asking that I just want to delete it

Yes I can delete it for me I’m trying to delete it for both there is a trick to reset your time but it isn’t working for some reason

They probably read the notification when it came through anyway and are aware it's there. Just delete the convo or achieve so you can't see it.

ladydimitrescu · 18/07/2022 14:00

You can't delete it for them, only you

BiscoffSundae · 18/07/2022 14:02

There is a way to delete it that’s what I’m asking if anyone knows as the way I read isn’t working but there is a way

FireandBrimstone · 18/07/2022 14:04

I think you can only delete it for both sender and recipient within an hour of sending.
I'm not aware of any way you can 'dupe' WhatsApp by resetting the time.

ladydimitrescu · 18/07/2022 14:06

There is a "delete for everyone" option, if that isn't showing and it just says "delete for you", you can't delete it for everyone.
I understand what you're asking - but it's not working so it clearly can't be done? If they've already read it there's literally no point stressing about it! They could easily have screen shot it even if you do delete it, so I would just archive the chat and move on tbh.

NoitsNott · 18/07/2022 14:06

There is no trick to delete it for the other party. You can only delete it for yourself.

The only way that "delete for both" works is when its done within minutes of sending the message and the person hasn't opened the message at all.

I know you said its showing "unread" but the person could have his settings to not notify people if he read the message or not (like the blue tick for read or grey tick for unread) Some people do that and you think they haven't read the message but they have. In cases like this, you could never delete the message for both because they would have already read it.

Pinkbonbon · 18/07/2022 14:12

There is a trick to delete it for yourself but not to delete it from their phone.

Not really sure why you'd bother anyway. Unless you've said something legally incriminating that they might use against you.

neilyoungismyhero · 18/07/2022 14:16

You can delete for everyone
hold down the message and the delete box comes up on the top. press that and it gives you the option to delete for me/cancel/delete for everyone

MiniCooperLover · 18/07/2022 14:19

I believe you can only delete for both of you if it's unread. if it's read it no longer can be?

BiscoffSundae · 18/07/2022 14:20

It only says delete for me the message is “unread” grey ticks

OP posts:
Whattodoin2022 · 18/07/2022 14:27

If you are getting the delete for you option only, you can no longer delete for them also.
If they have the read receipts turned off, you won't be able to tell when they read it and your message will always stay as a grey tick.

GreenManalishi · 18/07/2022 14:32

If you are only getting the delete for me option, that's the only option. I think there's a method where you stand outside their house with a really strong neodymium magnet and try and suck the message out through their letterbox, but don't quote me on that.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 18/07/2022 16:15

If it only says "Delete for me" Then there is no way for you to delete it for them. There is no trick or hack and they've definitely already read the message if they've been online

GreyCarpet · 18/07/2022 17:17

The delete for everyone option is only valid for an hour after sending. After that, you can't delete for everyone, only yourself.

There's no 'trick' to circumvent that.

Besides, they've probably already 'read' it anyway. They just haven't opened it.

Block him, forget about it and move on.

Watchkeys · 18/07/2022 18:41

Are you still at school, OP? If you've said something you wish you hadn't, say sorry (if appropriate) and move on.

OldSpeclkledHen · 18/07/2022 18:45

Here? (Hope it's the right picture 😂)

LilyMarshall · 18/07/2022 18:45

If it is a photo you regret sending, he could have the setting where photos are automatically saved anyway.

OldSpeclkledHen · 18/07/2022 18:46

Gargh it was the wrong one (sorry on my phone)

OldSpeclkledHen · 18/07/2022 18:47

Not sure if it works ... but worth a try?

Fabswingers · 18/07/2022 19:10

Change your phone times to that of a minute after the message was sent. Once you have done that you can then delete for everyone.
