I think I've just got rid of an authentic one and thinking back, I was such a fool...
Months of buying all the food/ petrol/ hotels and meals.
He would keep me guessing by buying a random lunch or dinner but would announce that he was going to do this.
He had sod all outgoungs and always the poor mouth/ woe is me as his job wasn't secure.
Think he probably had £600/ month to
play with but certainly not with me.
For the first year he was very generous but that all fell off once we started spending weekend at mine.
Single mother with three kids too by the way.
He saw me coming didn't he !

Mine is terrible! Never contributes to food bills, eats everything in the cupboard (but will only eat specific diet of grain free expensive food!), doesn't pay for rent / bills, never helps out around the house with cleaning, causes messes all the time and is just generally a terrible roommate. Unfortunately he's a cat, but all the same 😂

So he only came to yours at weekends? In that case, I don't think he fits the definition of a cocklodger, but he does sound like a tight git.

My ex lived with me for 10 years, and in all that time never contributed a penny towards any of our living expenses. In fact I regularly had to bail them out, and also funded numerous business ventures that never went anywhere. Ex worked sporadically, but only ever part time, and their income was very purely their disposable money. I'm not sure what the female equivalent term for cock lodger is though?

Heytheredeliah · 08/07/2022 21:15

Not sure if this really counts as a cocklodger , but this guy I briefly dated a while ago told me to buy him a bottle of his favourite sparkling water for when he came over to my place. I stupidly did so. Then he complained that he didn't even like the water I had bought for him and refused to drink it 😂

Another one which also doesn't really count was a guy I talked to on a dating app who told me to buy him lots of snacks for when he came over to mine 'to watch a movie'. I hadn't even invited him to my place. He just assumed he could come over for a shag to watch a movie.

Does it count if it's your daughter's boyfriend who came for a 2 week visit 🙄 and it is now week 15?. I am a single mum with 3 kids.

The boyfriend eats the equivalent of 2 adults food and happily eats what I would call a dinner for lunch as well.

On the plus side he has just got a job here and has agreed to pay me keep. Not holding my breath.

Fuzzyduckduckyfuzz · 08/07/2022 21:21

Ex lived with me for 3 years, barely contributed to living expenses. Was in and out of work - kept just not going once he had got paid.

Bought himself a car and clothes etc using my credit cards and accounts.

Kicked him out and was left with 24 grand of debt he's accumulated.

Had to get an iva

I still pay his phone bill as stuck in contract

Ultimatebetrayal · 08/07/2022 21:24

Mine paid for fuck all for 4 years. Kept his money to himself.

Then I kicked him out and he tried to take me to court claiming a share of my house. He lost and it cost him £70k and he had to pay all my legal costs.

@Ultimatebetrayal sweet 😊

I think in this case the cat is the householder and you are the (paying) lodger 🤣🤣

I had someone move in after the first date! Stayed the next day and never went home...sounds really odd I know. He seemed lovely.. got shut 6 months later.

Your not alone OP.

Teach your DD the correct way. Don't let her think it's acceptable.

Garysparrowsthirdwife · 08/07/2022 21:50

He was very keen to move in and once he had (I know…) he quit his job,sat around drinking beer, that I bought, eating and smoking on my tab and playing endless video games all night while doing fuck all in the house

two years this went on for-me running around on 4/5 hours sleep a night (he’d stay up most of the night, insisting I did too-but he got his lie ins until mid afternoon while I had to sort the kids and go to work)

he finally left when he beat me up and ran off with my best mate-years later he just disappeared and nobodies seen him for about 11 years

his family (who didn’t give a damn about him, what he did or how he lived his life) are wailing and hand wringing about how they miss him and what a fantastic dad he was (yeah, has never paid a penny and hasn’t bothered with them for the 11 years)

I read the article they had put in a random newspaper and couldn’t believe the bullshit they where spouting-it was like reading about a different man altogether

ZaphodDent · 08/07/2022 22:04

@Garysparrowsthirdwife How's that patio looking these days? Must be, what, eleven years old now? 😂
