I am just listening to the Cardigans Love Fool. It makes me think of a lot of threads here where women are desperate to hang on to losers who don't respect them. I hate song lyrics like this from the POV of a desperate woman with no self esteem. Makes women really look fools. Stupid lyrics like this have been around since the 1950s.

Does everything creative have to have a positive, inspiring message though? Surely critical thinking means you can hear those lyrics and pity the character singing them? Perhaps recognise a time in your life where you, or someone you know felt that way.

I think you need to credit the singer with a bit more self-awareness!

And that one from Dreamgirls just came on. I'm telling you I'm not going. I'm staying and you're going to love me. Er no Jennifer you can't make him.

Well, there are women like that, so why not make a songs capturing those feelings?

There are songs about cheating, drugs, drinking, killing, etc. A lyrics can be ridiculous to you but it’s based on someone’s experience, so it’s true to them.

if you don’t like it just don’t listen to it.
