Bank Holiday Engagement Hopefuls Thread

HopingAndWaiting2022 · 30/05/2022 19:28

NC for this. I know MN stance on engagements and proposals so prepared for this to go down like a lead balloon.

HOWEVER

I think DP is going to propose over the bank holiday weekend, I’m excited and can’t really talk about it in real life lest I look like a crazy person.

Anyone else hoping to get engaged this weekend and want to support each other through the anticipation and (hopefully not) potential disappointment?💍😬

Isn't the queen's jubilee an odd time to pick? I mean you can get engaged on any old Tuesday, but it sounds like you think he's chosen this weekend for a reason.

MintyMoocow · 31/05/2022 07:27

Well I hope he does propose OP. There is nothing wrong with an old fashioned proposal, as long as the couple in question have dumped the old fashioned baggage that used to go with it.

Andromachehadabadday · 31/05/2022 07:30

Why did you name change for this?

Have you posted similar before and he didn’t?

I hope whatever happens, you have a lovely weekend.

I don’t think engagements go down like a lead balloon here. It’s just that many posters don’t understand the way women build up every, vaguely, special day and pin all their excitement on their boyfriends proposing. Then ending up sad every time it does happen. Or women sat their waiting years on end for a proposal and keep accepting being robbed off.

Or like the very long thread recently where the op staged managed, got her own ring, took her own ring on holiday, had an awful holiday with her boyfriend who then proposed after she decided to end the relationship and then accepted because he was nice in the airport. It was shit relationship before that and I would bet a years wage the op is still with him.

Those thread infuriate posters because it’s so sad seeing women being sad and wasting their lives waiting for their boyfriend to eventually, do it. And many of them are wasting their lives. I think the annoyance comes from disliking women hanging round for a man, while the man consistently strings them along.

Thank you. I read that thread it was awful!

I think it might be this weekend because I know he has bought a ring, we are going away for the long weekend and the other day I bumped into his dad and he introduced me to someone as his “soon to be daughter in law”

Good luck! My husband and I had already discussed marriage, but he still bought a ring and did a formal getting-down-on-one-knee proposal and it was lovely! I hope it happens this weekend for you. Have you any thoughts on where or when you'll have the wedding?

Thanks @OhNoWhatYouGonnaDo . We have also discussed marriage and more so since we bought our house last year. Neither of us would want a fancy wedding because our house still needs a new kitchen and bathroom and I just baulk at spending £20K+ on one day but there is a lovely registry office in the next town over (1800s town hall) which I think would be lovely to get married in and then some kind of pub reception probably x

@HopingAndWaiting2022 sounds a lovely plan op. Some of the best weddings I've been to were buffets above a pub, friendly and fun

ENoeuf · 31/05/2022 09:08

I would have quite liked a romantic proposal tbh. I think there's a window of opportunity for it to be meaningful rather than showcasing a choice that's already been made, iyswim? Good luck op x

Ooh can I join? DP and I been together 4 years and spoke about it. A few weeks ago he asked me for my ring size and today we are flying to our favourite city break. We haven't been in years due to pandemic so even if it didn't happen, I am still excited to be going away!

Good luck OP with yours!

WishingWell5 · 31/05/2022 09:20

I love hearing about proposals and weddings, even though I've never been proposed to and will probably never have a wedding! For lots of people it's a really exciting and special thing. I would have loved to have it in some ways, and I refuse to be old and bitter that I haven't!! Enjoy your weekend!

Any update @PixieMiss ??

We arrived on holiday today and nothing yet but I wouldn’t want it to be on the first night anyway as it’s usually a long day and you are tired 🤞🏻😬
