Social media annoying

Does social media get on everyone else's nerves?

I used to love social media. Always posting photos etc. recently I can see it's just people showing off and has no basis on real life.

I'm nervous coming off it. Don't know why. Probably incase I miss something or feel left out.

It’s always been people showing off.
Now it’s people trying to make a living from it, instead of doing a job.
You need to go cold turkey and delete it all.

Mol1628 · 29/05/2022 08:00

yes. I found it was making me very irritable
I deleted everything and it’s made a positive improvement to my life

HSKAT · 29/05/2022 08:01

I deleted it all 2 year ago, best decision I've made.
I don't miss it.

icecreamcart · 29/05/2022 08:02

Making a living is fine. I don't mind those posts. But a lot is boasting.

Ooh glad some of you deleted and are happy.

OldTinHat · 29/05/2022 08:06

Deleted all mine five years ago and have been much happier since!

Oysterbabe · 29/05/2022 08:21

It depends how you use it. I'm on it mostly for the groups I'm in associated with my hobby and find the community and support really lovely. If you don't get anything positive from it then leave.

icecreamcart · 29/05/2022 09:19

Yeah true. Felt I was just consuming everyone's lives.

I came off just over 6 months ago, yes it feels like you are missing out at first but now I'm so glad I'm off it. So much happier. No more comparing myself to others crap, I recommend it. See if you can do a few months and see how you go.

pastypirate · 29/05/2022 11:02

I ditched it all for 5 years. I was fine. When I've gone back to it I've realised people I know have died and I didn't know. That made me feel a bit shit.

I mute everyone that posts boasting stuff they still have a connection but I can't see their tripe. I'd rather not have it though

ElenaSt · 29/05/2022 11:03

I'm fed up of the bans for either them getting it wrong or for the most ridiculous reason, usually a joke.

yesterdaytheycame · 29/05/2022 11:37

That's what they rely on. Be strong. Delete.

BadWolf2022 · 29/05/2022 11:39

I deleted all mine Facebook, Instagram, snap chat etc a year ago. Don't miss it at all.

It's all just brag, brag, brag, brag! When half of the people in real life are actually miserable. I'll never go back on it anymore - I had a few friends complain that I deleted it as they can't tag me in their posts and that just confirmed what a waste of time it really is.

BadWolf2022 · 29/05/2022 11:41

icecreamcart · 29/05/2022 09:19

Yeah true. Felt I was just consuming everyone's lives.

This. I have a friend addicted to it she'll spend all day on it and ends up ignoring her kids for it. It's quite sad how much it consumes people all just to look at these fake attention seeking people.

Solosunrise · 29/05/2022 11:52

I deleted mine and have never looked back! I get much more pleasure seeing and talking to my friends and family in real life.

Branster · 29/05/2022 11:52

I used it minimally in the past and deleted the little that I had 2-3 years ago because I found it utterly pointless.
I used to enjoy Pinterest as a purely inspirational board of visuals classed by topic. When they started with videos I found it annoying and then it ended up as a ridiculous dump of repeats so stopped looking there.
I always knew social media was used as a tool for some ordinary folk to show their pretentious side which was vacuous, utterly pointless . But the marketing and advertising shite is what irritates me. Instagram is by far the worst for this.
The glimpses of ticktok I couldn't avoid: idiotic to my mind. And so on.

Arglwydd · 29/05/2022 12:08

I came off it around 5 years ago, was making me feel depressed. Tons better now. Stopped watching the bloody news so much too, anything important i soon find out through the grapevine. I feel like everyone is on SM except me so it’s refreshing to read on here that is just isn’t the case!

Hawkins001 · 29/05/2022 12:23

I use Facebook but normally it's only educational topics I share, sometimes it's my photography too but I have periods where I do lots of photography, then other times it's dry periods. Personal information, I usually discuss more on here than Facebook.

icecreamcart · 29/05/2022 12:33

It has a strong pull and makes me feel under pressure. Comparing myself to others instead of focusing on my feelings and going within rather than comparing myself to others. Thing is everyone compares themselves to each other and we all try and out-do each other just for the likes on facebook.

It's like how high can you jump? I can jump this high and that becomes the normal. Then you need to jump even higher and higher. Can't be bothered with it all. Knackering.

Give it a couple of weeks. The FOMO will fade away.

raincheckrosemary · 29/05/2022 15:52

I want to do the same but worried something bad will happen. Not sure why.

balalake · 29/05/2022 15:59

Leave, it can be like an addiction.

bakewellbride · 29/05/2022 16:05

I got rid of Facebook years ago and it's great not having it! Do it!

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 29/05/2022 16:31

I keep Facebook active purely to use Marketplace and as an avenue of contact for my extended family in the event of someone dying (means I don't have to give them my phone number.)

I used to be very active on there about 5-10 years ago and it just creates a huge time-sink and a false sense of friendship with people who couldn't actually care less about me for the most part.

SarahShorty · 29/05/2022 16:45

Social media damn near ruined my life. I only have Instagram to follow people, but I haven't been on it for months now so I'm going to delete it.

icecreamcart · 29/05/2022 19:00

@SarahShorty really 🥺 how?
