The 'exclusive' chat

Does the exclusive chat always happen? Or is it sometimes just assumed by both parties?

I've been dating someone for about two months, and I usually spend three evenings a week with him. He makes a lot of effort with me and we've fallen into a seamless routine of seeing each other on set days. I do genuinely believe he likes me a lot but this isn't something we've ever discussed.

Along with that, at no point have we discussed exclusivity or if we are talking to other people and it's getting to a stage where I'm feeling paranoid and sick with anxiety about falling for him or having the wrong impression, etc. As he's the first person I've dated since my long term relationship ending I feel very out of my depth and inexperienced with this world of newly dating.

Am I just expecting too much too soon? Is this a conversation I should broach, if so how?? Any opinions or experiences welcome Smile

If you want to know, just ask him.
I had this chat with my bf at about 2 months. We were talking a bit me meeting some of his friends. I said I was happy to do that but want to clearly know where we were at and if were progressing to that stage I wanted to know if we were exclusive. I told him if we weren't it wasnt an issue as I wasnt trying to catch him out, but things had gone as far as I was happy to allow between us without being exclusive. I explained that progressing our relationship to meeting friends meant quite a lot to me.
He was great, said as far he was concerned we were and always had been. 🙂
Just ask the question. If he's a good guy he'll understand and you'll know youre on the same page. Good luck!

I had been seeing my boyfriend for 4 months when we had the explicit "chat", but he had told me very early on that he wasn't talking to anyone else and that he'd deleted the dating apps. He said that about 3 weeks after our first date, so I knew from the start what his intentions were and I'm always so grateful he just openly told me that! But the official chat was just instigated by me. We were having a conversation and I ended up naturally just saying "So if someone asked you if you're single, what would you say?" He just looked at me and said he'd tell them he was in a relationship, because he is 😊 Personally I'd wanted that explicit chat to clarify things and I guess for reassurance too! Just ask him how he sees it!

Thanks for your responses, has helped me feel at ease about being the one to raise it as a lot of people around me seem to suggest it should be him initiating these conversations. I'll try pluck up the conversation when I next see him Blush

Your friends are suggesting that your man initiates that sort of conversation? Most men I know don't talk in terms of exclusivity as it's not crossed their minds.

Mind you, I have little to no experience of OLD, so what do I know?!
