Facebook dating app

I joined Facebook dating last night. Whenever there is a match the person messages you in the app. I have just had a message sent on messenger from a guy saying he saw me on the app. This has freaked me out as he knows my surname. I'm not any other apps. How would he find my profile?

He told me he bypassed the app because of a shared mutual group and is now lecturing me on how we are meant to be together based on shared interests. I have never met or spoke to this man till half an hour ago. He seems obsessed saying you would travel for love. We don't know each other!

Sometimes people can be found quite easily with a first name and town name. Maybe change your name on the app?

loveyoutothemoon · 11/04/2022 20:13

And block him as he sounds like a fruit loop!

HappyAsLarry2022 · 11/04/2022 20:16

Don’t have any of your app pics as your profile pic and use an abrieviated version of your name on the app.
I had a guy who I was talking to on the app who then joined a fb group that I was on. Freaked me right out!

HappyAsLarry2022 · 11/04/2022 20:17

I have had some men come on really hot and heavy and it’s horrible!

arethereanyleftatall · 11/04/2022 20:22

I'm afraid with google it's very easy with first name, location, job, hobby to find a full name. It's hard with online dating because you either have to lie or give out absolutely basic information and you're easy to find.

TiffanyIceberg · 11/04/2022 20:34

There's also a bit you can search to see who is in the same groups as you as well as on the dating bit.

Fuzzyhippo · 11/04/2022 20:47

I find on Facebook dating that a lot of the people they suggest to you have mutual friends. I joined just out of curiosity and most of the men knew who I was. Although my mum's on it too and the only person who knew who she was was her old school teacher Grin

One of the guys was a right loser today. He sent one word answers. I went out for an hour and he sent a load of abusive messages and blocked me. Never had that on a dating app before.

I was considering joining the FB dating app, but was hesitant because I thought it might lack that additional layer of privacy. You lot have put me right off it. Shudder.

AHungryCaterpillar · 11/04/2022 21:45

I wouldn’t use fb dating I was just use a proper dating app.

whitebunnies · 11/04/2022 21:49

@AHungryCaterpillar It seems like one of the worst ones. The men look very odd and are needy if you don't reply with an hour.

To be fair that's true with a lot of the apps!

LondonQueen · 11/04/2022 22:31

It's really easy to find most people with just their first name and town...

Was he in the army? I've had two from the army who behaved like this - if I didn't respond the second I saw a message, I got a pile of 'no need to be so rude.'
