I'm on incognito mode while I get used to the whole idea, so not even the slight chance of him swiping me until I remove that.

No, he's not gone forever, keep swiping. Narrow your target but keep his age and location in. Eventually you'll work your way through all possibilities and then they will start over again. I know because the same thing happened to me... didn't go anywhere mind
