Hi there, yesterday my boyfriend came home drunk we had an argument about a secret folder he had on his phone, I tried to grab the phone off him to show him and he grabbed my by throat and said I was lucky he didn't headbut me. Should I leave now?

Yep. Leave and don’t look back.

TeeBee · 28/03/2022 05:18

Yes, of course you should. What would you tell your own daughter? Treat yourself with the same love and respect.

MrsFatArse · 28/03/2022 05:21

Yes. Without hesitation. What concerns me is you are asking this which implies you're not sure if you should leave.

CakesOfVersailles · 28/03/2022 05:21

Yes of course. What would tell a friend or daughter or sister in your situation?

Gripping another person by the throat is strong predictor of homicide. A woman who has been choked or had their throat gripped by their partner is 750% more likely to be murdered by her partner.

Leave and don't look back. You are worth more than this.

BritInAus · 28/03/2022 05:21

Without a doubt and without delay.

DockOTheBay · 28/03/2022 05:24

Yes definitely

Thewheelsfalloffthebus · 28/03/2022 05:25

Yes. Leave now. Don’t tell him your leaving him until you’re safely out.

EdgeOfACoin · 28/03/2022 05:27

Yes, no question.

I have never, ever had anyone grab me by the throat in an argument and threaten to headbutt me.

This is not remotely normal or acceptable.

Whatever00 · 28/03/2022 05:28

Absolutely 💯. Leave now and never look back.

Saltyquiche · 28/03/2022 05:37

That is incredibly serious, a precursor to extreme abusive and life threatening behaviour.

Go report the incident and head it threat to the police today.

Somuddled · 28/03/2022 05:39

Of course you leave. Sorry this happened to you.

RedRobin100 · 28/03/2022 05:42

Yes

NameGoesHere · 28/03/2022 05:47

Of course, don’t wait for the next time he hurts you worse.

MNCar · 28/03/2022 05:47

He made an attempt to obstruct your airway which can so easily cause your death and then said how lucky you were he didn’t headbut you ( render you unconscious).

Why on earth would you want to leave this Prince eh? He sounds lovely.

Seriously. Leave, report and stay away from him.

Hopingforabagofbuttons · 28/03/2022 05:56

When someone puts their hands around your throat it is MAJOR red flag .
Manual strangulation is the biggest sign domestic abuse will turn deadly. Look it up online.
Leave , leave now and never go back

Krakenchorus · 28/03/2022 06:00

Yes. Are you considering minimising the man's violence? Please leave.

autienotnaughty · 28/03/2022 06:02

Yes yes yes. This is a test to see where your boundaries are if you accept this it will continue and it will get worse. The more invested you are the harder it is to leave. Leave now.

Bananalanacake · 28/03/2022 06:10

How long have you been together, do you live together, easier to leave if you don't have DC.

DoobryWhatsit · 28/03/2022 06:14

Yes, of course. Do you have anyone irl who can help you with the logistics of leaving? If he's asleep, do you have somewhere safe you can go right now?

A580Hojas · 28/03/2022 06:14

Of course!

MockneyReject · 28/03/2022 06:14

Yes, leave.
I will forever regret wasting my 20s and 30s excusing a man like this.
It will happen again.

Wavypurple · 28/03/2022 06:20

This is just the beginning.

Walk out of the house soon or you’ll be carried out soon enough by paramedics.

There are useful links on here for DV survivors, please please leave.

MissRalux · 28/03/2022 06:22

Omg, please get out ASAP. This man is abusive and dangerous. I was in a relationship similar to yours but not taken to that extreme. My ex started with breaking pieces of furniture, punching holes in the wall, doors. Then moved on to slap me. Unfortunately I still stayed with him for another couple of years which I now regret as things are progressively get worse! It's not getting any better, I promise! Just leave him as soon as you can and don't look back! Also cut all contact as he's going to try to lure you back in with empty promises of being a changed man. It's a lie. I fell for it time and time again. Nothing's changed!

SoulOfPaddington · 28/03/2022 06:23

Leave asap
If you stay you are just giving him permission to use violence whenever he wants to. Do not fall for his tears when you've gone either.

RustyShackleford3 · 28/03/2022 06:24

Yes, of course you should. You are in danger.

I would argue that him gripping your throat is even more worrying than him punching you, because it's the beginning of strangling you. If he was just a little bit more angry for just a little bit longer then you might not have survived.
