counselling and coercive control

I'd be really grateful for some advice from you wise women, please.

Over the years on this board I'm sure I've read many times that couples counselling is not recommended where one of the partners is coercive/controlling, but I've been unable to find any source I can quote on this. Would anybody know where I can find something reasonably authoritative to quote on this please? Or have I completely fabricated this somehow?

You are correct in that couples counselling is not recommended where there is abuse of any type within the relationship. Both Lundy Bancroft and Womens Aid have written about this.

Why do you need to quote sources and to whom?. If it’s to an abusive partner do not bother with doing so.

@Allthecheeseplease this is a great article. Thank you for sharing it.

Thank you very much for that article, that's really helpful.

I've been asked to fund couples counselling for a couple where this is an issue and wanted to be able to back up my reluctance to do so, and this is what I had in mind. The funding in itself isn't a problem but I don't want to pay for something that could be damaging for the woman.

Is the counsel or happy to take them in? Because that's not great.

I don't think the counsellor has been told it's an issue, unfortunately.
